이스라엘은 안으로는 모반이 끊이지 않았고 밖으로는 국력이 쇠퇴해갔습니다. 하지만 하나님이 아닌 우상을 찾아가 부르짖다가 피할 수 없는 심판을 자초했습니다.

[ 호세아 7:1 - 7:16 ] (찬송290장)

1내가 이스라엘을 치료하려 할 때에 에브라임의 죄와 사마리아의 악이 드러나도다 그들은 거짓을 행하며 안으로 들어가 도둑질하고 밖으로 떼 지어 노략질하며 2내가 모든 악을 기억하였음을 그들이 마음에 생각하지 아니하거니와 이제 그들의 행위가 그들을 에워싸고 내 얼굴 앞에 있도다

 3그들이 그 악으로 왕을, 그 거짓말로 지도자들을 기쁘게 하도다 4그들은 다 간음하는 자라 과자 만드는 자에 의해 달궈진 화덕과 같도다 그가 반죽을 뭉침으로 발효되기까지만 불 일으키기를 그칠 뿐이니라 5우리 왕의 날에 지도자들은 술의 뜨거움으로 병이 나며 왕은 오만한 자들과 더불어 악수하는도다 6그들이 가까이 올 때에 그들의 마음은 간교하여 화덕 같으니 그들의 분노는 밤새도록 자고 아침에 피우는 불꽃 같도다 7그들이 다 화덕 같이 뜨거워져서 그 재판장들을 삼키며 그들의 왕들을 다 엎드러지게 하며 그들 중에는 내게 부르짖는 자가 하나도 없도다 8에브라임이 여러 민족 가운데에 혼합되니 그는 곧 뒤집지 않은 전병이로다 9이방인들이 그의 힘을 삼켰으나 알지 못하고 백발이 무성할지라도 알지 못하는도다 10이스라엘의 교만은 그 얼굴에 드러났나니 그들이 이 모든 일을 당하여도 그들의 하나님 여호와께로 돌아오지 아니하며 구하지 아니하도다 11에브라임은 어리석은 비둘기 같이 지혜가 없어서 애굽을 향하여 부르짖으며 앗수르로 가는도다 12그들이 갈 때에 내가 나의 그물을 그 위에 쳐서 공중의 새처럼 떨어뜨리고 전에 그 회중에 들려 준 대로 그들을 징계하리라

 13화 있을진저 그들이 나를 떠나 그릇 갔음이니라 패망할진저 그들이 내게 범죄하였음이니라 내가 그들을 건져 주려 하나 그들이 나를 거슬러 거짓을 말하고 14성심으로 나를 부르지 아니하였으며 오직 침상에서 슬피 부르짖으며 곡식과 새 포도주로 말미암아 모이며 나를 거역하는도다 15내가 그들 팔을 연습시켜 힘 있게 하였으나 그들은 내게 대하여 악을 꾀하는도다 16그들은 돌아오나 높으신 자에게로 돌아오지 아니하니 속이는 활과 같으며 그들의 지도자들은 그 혀의 거친 말로 말미암아 칼에 엎드러지리니 이것이 애굽 땅에서 조롱거리가 되리라

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

1,2절   하나님은 이스라엘을 치료하려 하셨지만, 이스라엘은 완강하게 마음 바꾸기를 거절했습니다. 백성과 지도자는 거짓을 일삼고 도둑질과 노략질을 자행했습니다. 하나님께서 그들의 죄악을 다 알고 계시고 기억하고 계신다는 것은 생각하지 않고, 도리어 은총으로 맺어주신 언약과 선물로 주신 각종 복마저 망각했습니다. 그들이 저지른 죄악이 성벽처럼 그들을 에워싸고 있었습니다. 이스라엘의 멸망은 하나님이 외면하셨기 때문이 아니라 그들이 돌아가지 않았기 때문입니다.

3-7절   이스라엘에는 모반에 모반이 끊이지 않았습니다. 늘 남의 자리를 노리면서 분노의 불길을 끄지 않는 그들은 달궈진 화덕처럼 위험했습니다. 반역과 모반으로 재판장들과 왕들이 연거푸 사라졌지만, 아무도 하나님께 부르짖지 않습니다. 그만큼 저마다 탐욕과 야욕으로 가득 찼고, 눈에 보이지 않는 하나님보다 눈에 보이는 세력을 의지했습니다. 하나님을 왕으로 모시지 않는 나라, 가정, 마음에는 결코 평화도 없고 쉼도 없습니다. 

8-12절   이방 앞에 제사장 나라로 부름받은 이스라엘이 이제 이방과 구별할 수 없을 만큼 비슷한 나라가 되었습니다. 강대국을 의지하여 힘을 키우려 했지만 어리석게 이용만 당했습니다. 백발이 되었는데도 힘이 빠져 허약한 나라가 된 줄 몰랐으며, 주께 돌아오기에는 너무 교만했습니다. 결국 그들은 하나님을 등지고 앗수르와 애굽을 향해 힘을 구걸했습니다. 심판 말고는 하나님이 그들에게 해줄 것이 없었습니다. 피할 수 없는 날이 오기 전에 나와 우리 교회가 세상보다 하나님을 더 두려워하고 영광스럽게 여기도록 기도합시다.

13-16절   이스라엘은 구원의 길을 버리고 스스로 패망을 향해 내달렸습니다. 감동적인 예배를 드리면서 하나님께 속히 돌아갈 것처럼 하더니, ‘속이는 활’처럼 하나님이라는 과녁이 아닌 엉뚱한 곳으로 찾아갔습니다. 하나님의 백성이 수치와 조롱을 당하는 까닭은 하나님의 손이 짧아서가 아니라(사 59:1) 그들이 하나님을 외면했기 때문입니다.

[ Hosea 7:1 - 7:16 ]

1when I would heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed, and the evil deeds of Samaria, for they deal falsely; the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid outside.2 But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.3 By their evil they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery.4 They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven whose baker ceases to stir the fire, from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.5 On the day of our king, the princes became sick with the heat of wine; he stretched out his hand with mockers.6 For with hearts like an oven they approach their intrigue; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.7 All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers. All their kings have fallen, and none of them calls upon me.8 Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.9 Strangers devour his strength, and he knows it not; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, and he knows it not.10 The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him, for all this.11 Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense, calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.12 As they go, I will spread over them my net; I will bring them down like birds of the heavens; I will discipline them according to the report made to their congregation.13 Woe to them, for they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me! I would redeem them, but they speak lies against me.14 They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves; they rebel against me.15 Although I trained and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against me.16 They return, but not upward; they are like a treacherous bow; their princes shall fall by the sword because of the insolence of their tongue. This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God was trying to heal Israel, but they continued to fall into sin. The leaders were hard-pressed trying to please neighbouring nations like Egypt and Assyria. They were too busy fighting within themselves to install a king they favoured. Eventually, they lost their identity as a priestly nation and ushered in their own destruction. They did not appeal to God in their time of need. Even though they cried out, their cries were insincere. They even followed the Canaanite ritual of wounding themselves while praying, which was an insult to God (vv. 1-16).

하나님은 이스라엘의 죄를 치료하려 하셨지만 그들은 끊임없이 죄에 빠집니다. 권력자들은 이집트와 앗시리아를 비롯한 주변 열강들 눈치만 살피고, 입맛에 맞는 왕을 세우기 위해 권력 다툼만을 일삼습니다. 그러다가 결국 제사장 나라로서의 정체성을 상실하고, 멸망을 자초합니다. 망해가면서도 하나님께 호소하지도 않습니다. 부르짖어도 진실성이 없습니다. 몸에 상처를 입히면서 기도하는 가나안의 제사 풍속을 따르며, 오히려 하나님을 모욕합니다(1-16절).

Who is God?

Vv. 12-16 God cast a net of judgment on Israel, who refused every opportunity to repent. They justified themselves and continued in their lies and rebellion. In the end, Israel was destroyed and became a mockery because they had left God. When we decide to leave God, He cannot help us even if He wanted to. Let us turn back to the Father’s arms when we are being disciplined by Him. 

회개의 기회를 거부하는 이스라엘에게 심판의 그물을 던지십니다. 하지만 이스라엘은 자기를 방어하고 변호하며 거짓과 거역으로 일관합니다. 결국 하나님을 떠난 이스라엘은 멸망하여 조롱거리가 되었습니다. 하나님을 떠나면 하나님이 도와주고 싶어도 도와주지 못합니다. 매를 맞아도 아버지의 품으로 돌아서는 것만이 살길입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 3-7 Israel, after abandoning God, was going from one treachery to another. Everyone was seeking to take the place of others and continued to fan into flame their anger; they were as dangerous as a hot furnace. There was neither shalom nor rest in the hearts of the nation, families, and individuals who did not honour God as king. In this sort of society, no one is exalted and no one can remain friends.

하나님을 떠난 이스라엘은 모반이 끊이지 않습니다. 늘 남의 자리를 노리면서 분노의 불길을 끄지 않는 그들은 항상 달궈진 화덕처럼 위험했습니다. 하나님을 왕으로 모시지 않는 나라, 가정, 그리고 개인의 마음에는 결코 샬롬도 없고 쉼도 없습니다. 아무도 높임 받을 수 없고 아무도 친구가 될 수 없습니다.

Dear God, help me to know that my strength is found only in making you glad.
