하나님은 남유다 출신의 목자 아모스를 불러 북이스라엘과 그 주변 나라들에 대한 심판의 메시지를 전하게 하십니다. 그 중 첫 부분은 이스라엘 주변국에 대한 심판의 메시지입니다.

[ 아모스 1:1 - 2:3 ] (찬송14장)

1유다 왕 웃시야의 시대 곧 이스라엘 왕 요아스의 아들 여로보암의 시대 지진 전 이년에 드고아 목자 중 아모스가 이스라엘에 대하여 이상으로 받은 말씀이라 2그가 이르되 여호와께서 시온에서부터 부르짖으시며 예루살렘에서부터 소리를 내시리니 목자의 초장이 마르고 갈멜 산 꼭대기가 마르리로다

 3여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 다메섹의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 철 타작기로 타작하듯 길르앗을 압박하였음이라 4내가 하사엘의 집에 불을 보내리니 벤하닷의 궁궐들을 사르리라 5내가 다메섹의 빗장을 꺾으며 아웬 골짜기에서 그 주민들을 끊으며 벧에덴에서 규 잡은 자를 끊으리니 아람 백성이 사로잡혀 기르에 이르리라 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라

 6여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 가사의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 모든 사로잡은 자를 끌어 에돔에 넘겼음이라 7내가 가사 성에 불을 보내리니 그 궁궐들을 사르리라 8내가 또 아스돗에서 그 주민들과 아스글론에서 규를 잡은 자를 끊고 또 손을 돌이켜 에그론을 치리니 블레셋의 남아 있는 자가 멸망하리라 주 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라

 9여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 두로의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 그 형제의 계약을 기억하지 아니하고 모든 사로잡은 자를 에돔에 넘겼음이라 10내가 두로 성에 불을 보내리니 그 궁궐들을 사르리라

 11여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 에돔의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그가 칼로 그의 형제를 쫓아가며 긍휼을 버리며 항상 맹렬히 화를 내며 분을 끝없이 품었음이라 12내가 데만에 불을 보내리니 보스라의 궁궐들을 사르리라

 13여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 암몬 자손의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 자기 지경을 넓히고자 하여 길르앗의 아이 밴 여인의 배를 갈랐음이니라 14내가 랍바 성에 불을 놓아 그 궁궐들을 사르되 전쟁의 날에 외침과 회오리바람의 날에 폭풍으로 할 것이며 15그들의 왕은 그 지도자들과 함께 사로잡혀 가리라 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라 

 2:1여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 모압의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그가 에돔 왕의 뼈를 불살라 재를 만들었음이라 2내가 모압에 불을 보내리니 그리욧 궁궐들을 사르리라 모압이 요란함과 외침과 나팔 소리 중에서 죽을 것이라 3내가 그 중에서 재판장을 멸하며 지도자들을 그와 함께 죽이리라 여호와께서 말씀하시니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

1,2절   누구든 불러 일꾼으로 삼으십니다. 아모스는 남유다의 드고아에서 양을 치던 목자요, 뽕나무를 재배하던 사람입니다(7:14). 하나님은 그런 아모스를 불러 북왕국 이스라엘을 향한 책망과 심판의 메시지를 선포하게 하십니다. 하나님은 그의 나라와 의를 위해 목자를 들어 쓰기도 하시고, 어부를 부르기도 하시며, 세리를 택하기도 하십니다. 하나님의 부르심엔 차별이 없습니다. 학식이 있었던 바울이나 학문과 관계없던 베드로나 다 있는 모습 그대로 귀하게 쓰임받았습니다. 같은 은혜로 우리를 불러 일꾼 삼아주심에 감사드립시다.

3절-2:3   모든 나라의 주인이십니다. 다메섹, 가사, 두로, 에돔, 암몬, 모압이 하나님의 엄중한 심판을 선고받습니다. 하나님은 그 나라들에 대한 심판의 메시지를 “여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되”로 시작하고 “여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라”로 마치심으로 모든 나라의 궁극적 운명이 하나님 자신에게 있음을 분명히 하십니다. 각 나라와 민족이 하나님 없이 그들 소견에 옳은 대로 살았을지 모르나, 이 땅에 하나님 없이 설 수 있는 민족과 나라는 없습니다. 모든 민족과 나라의 주인이신 하나님을 경외하는 것이 믿음이고, 그 사실을 인정하는 것이 지혜입니다.

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

3절-2:3   각 나라는 그들이 저지른 분명한 죄로 인해 하나님의 엄중한 심판을 받습니다. 다메섹은 길르앗을 잔인하게 압박한 죄, 가사는 전쟁 포로들을 에돔에 팔아넘긴 죄, 두로는 계약을 파기하고 형제 된 백성을 에돔에 팔아넘긴 죄, 에돔은 형제인 야곱의 자손에게 포학하게 군 죄(옵 1:10-14), 암몬은 영토 확장을 위해 다른 나라 백성을 무자비하게 학살한 죄, 모압은 에돔 왕의 뼈를 불사르는 잔혹한 죄를 저질렀습니다. 온 세상이 다 그런 방식으로 사는데 뭐가 문제냐고 변명할지 모르나, 모든 행위에 대한 공의로운 심판이 있다는 사실을 기억해야 합니다. 그러므로 세상의 흐름대로 사는 것이 아니라, 공의의 하나님 앞에서 정직하고 순결하게 살아내야 합니다. 모든 나라와 인생의 마지막은 언제나 공의로우신 하나님 앞입니다.

[ Amos 1:1 - 2:3 ]

1The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors2 And he said: “The LORD roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.”3 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.4 So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.5 I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,” says the LORD.6 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried into exile a whole people to deliver them up to Edom.7 So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour her strongholds.8 I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,” says the Lord GOD.9 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they delivered up a whole people to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.10 So I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour her strongholds.”11 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever.12 So I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”13 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have ripped open pregnant  women in Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.14 So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour her strongholds, with shouting on the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;15 and their king shall go into exile, he and his princes together,” says the LORD.2 :1Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he burned to lime the bones of the king of Edom.2 So I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the strongholds of Kerioth, and Moab shall die amid uproar, amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;3 I will cut off the ruler from its midst, and will kill all its princes with him,” says the LORD. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God called Amos, a herdsman from Tekoa, Judah to be a prophet. Amos was sent to declare God’s judgment over sinful Israel (1:1-2). First, Amos declared God’s judgment upon the nations that surrounded Israel: Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, and Moab. God named their specific sins and told them why He was judging them; He had been watching them all along (1:3-2:3).

하나님은 남유다 드고아에서 목축을 하던 아모스를 선지자로 부르셨습니다. 아모스는 죄악으로 가득한 이스라엘로 보내져 하나님의 심판을 선포합니다(1:1-2). 먼저 아모스는 북이스라엘 주변 국가들을 향하여 하나님의 심판을 선포합니다. 다마스쿠스, 가사, 두로, 에돔, 암몬, 모압에 대해서 하나님은 그들의 구체적인 죄들을 언급하시며 심판의 이유를 말씀하십니다. 그들의 죄를 빠짐없이 지켜보고 계셨던 것입니다(1:3-2:3).

Who is God?

2: 1-2 God foretold of a time of desolation for Israel during a time of plenty. Amos’ preaching of judgment during a time of peace was a message that felt out of place in view of the context of the times. But the wise discern the times through God’s Word and know what to do. Am I giving ear to God’s earnest voice?

풍요의 시대에 황폐한 미래를 예고하십니다. 평화 시에 심판을 말하는 아모스의 설교는 시대 상황에 맞지 않는 메시지였습니다. 그러나 지혜로운 자는 말씀 속에서 시대를 분별하며 어떻게 행해야 할지를 찾습니다. 나는 하나님의 부르짖음을 듣고 있습니까?

1: 3-11 God declared He would punish the nations around Judah for their sins—they had repeatedly plagued His people for too long. He will make sure they pay. God is not oblivious to the suffering of His people. He will avenge their injustice and pain.

오랫동안 반복적으로 하나님의 백성을 괴롭혀온 유다 주변 나라들의 죄를 징벌하시고, 반드시 그 죗값을 치르게 하겠다고 선언하십니다. 하나님은 자기 백성이 당하는 고통을 모른 체하지 않으시고, 그 억울함과 고통을 반드시 갚아주십니다.
