네 하나님 만나기를 준비하라

사랑의 하나님이 온 세상을 동원해 이스라엘을 징계하며 돌아오기를 바라시지만 이스라엘은 꿈쩍도 하지 않습니다. 이제 하나님은 심판자로서 이스라엘을 만나겠다고 하십니다.

[ 아모스 4:4 - 4:13 ] (찬송515장)

4너희는 벧엘에 가서 범죄하며 길갈에 가서 죄를 더하며 아침마다 너희 희생을, 삼일마다 너희 십일조를 드리며 5누룩 넣은 것을 불살라 수은제로 드리며 낙헌제를 소리내어 선포하려무나 이스라엘 자손들아 이것이 너희가 기뻐하는 바니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

 6또 내가 너희 모든 성읍에서 너희 이를 깨끗하게 하며 너희의 각 처소에서 양식이 떨어지게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 7또 추수하기 석 달 전에 내가 너희에게 비를 멈추게 하여 어떤 성읍에는 내리고 어떤 성읍에는 내리지 않게 하였더니 땅 한 부분은 비를 얻고 한 부분은 비를 얻지 못하여 말랐으매 8두 세 성읍 사람이 어떤 성읍으로 비틀거리며 물을 마시러 가서 만족하게 마시지 못하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 9내가 곡식을 마르게 하는 재앙과 깜부기 재앙으로 너희를 쳤으며 팥중이로 너희의 많은 동산과 포도원과 무화과나무와 감람나무를 다 먹게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 10내가 너희 중에 전염병 보내기를 애굽에서 한 것처럼 하였으며 칼로 너희 청년들을 죽였으며 너희 말들을 노략하게 하며 너희 진영의 악취로 코를 찌르게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 11내가 너희 중의 성읍 무너뜨리기를 하나님인 내가 소돔과 고모라를 무너뜨림 같이 하였으므로 너희가 불붙는 가운데서 빼낸 나무 조각 같이 되었으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라

 12그러므로 이스라엘아 내가 이와 같이 네게 행하리라 내가 이것을 네게 행하리니 이스라엘아 네 하나님 만나기를 준비하라 13보라 산들을 지으며 바람을 창조하며 자기 뜻을 사람에게 보이며 아침을 어둡게 하며 땅의 높은 데를 밟는 이는 그의 이름이 만군의 하나님 여호와시니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

6-11절   범죄한 이스라엘이 돌아올 수 있도록 온 세상을 동원해 징계하십니다. 기근(6절), 가뭄(7,8절), 재앙과 병충해(9절), 전염병과 전쟁(10절), 지진(11절)은 이스라엘을 돌이키려는 하나님의 개입입니다. 그런데 이스라엘에겐 그 많은 역경과 환난이 죄를 깨닫고 돌이킬 수 있는 기회가 되지 않습니다. 도무지 돌이키지 않습니다. 지독하게 고집스러운 그들을 향해 하나님이 지속적으로 반복하시는 말씀은 “너희가 내게로 돌아오지 않았다”입니다. 이는 완악한 이스라엘을 향한 고발이기도 하지만 “제발 내게로 돌아오라”는 간곡한 호소이기도 합니다. 

12,13절   “네 하나님 만나기를 준비하라”는 선언은 언약의 저주가 실현되는 것을 보면서도 끝내 돌아서지 않는 이스라엘을 향한 최후통첩입니다. 회개의 마지막 기회마저 저버린 그들을 기다리는 것은 심판뿐입니다. 진심으로 돌아오지 않고도 무사한 역사는 없고, 영원히 하나님의 낯을 피할 수 있는 사람은 없습니다. 날마다 우리는 온 천지를 창조하시고 주관하시는 왕이자 공의로 심판하시는 재판관이신 하나님과 대면할 준비를 하며 살아야 합니다. 준비되지 않은 사람에게는 하나님을 대면하는 날이 두려운 날이 되겠지만, 준비된 사람에게는 하나님의 격려와 칭찬을 받는 영광의 날이 될 것입니다. 주님을 만나는 날을 위해 오늘 어떤 준비를 하고 있습니까?

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

4,5절   이스라엘은 나름의 기쁨을 품고 종교 예식을 행합니다. 아침마다 희생을 드리고 삼일마다 십일조를 드리며, 하나님의 은혜에 감사하여 드리는 수은제와 즐거운 마음으로 예물을 드리는 낙헌제도 드립니다. 하지만 벧엘에서 범죄하고 길갈에서 죄를 더하는 삶을 살면서 드리는 예배는 예배일 수 없고 예물도 예물일 수 없습니다. 그래서 아모스는 그들에게 예물에 넣지 말아야 할 누룩까지 넣어가며 그렇게 계속 열심히 예배를 드려보라고 비꼽니다. 그것은 아무런 도움이 되지 않는 종교 행위요, 하나님의 뜻을 거역하는 행위일 뿐입니다. 삶이 되는 예배가 참된 예배이고, 예배가 되는 삶이 아름다운 삶입니다.

4“Come to Bethel, and transgress; to Gilgal, and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days;5 offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill offerings, publish them; for so you love to do, O people of Israel!” declares the Lord GOD.6 “I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD.7 “I also withheld the rain from you when there were yet three months to the harvest; I would send rain on one city, and send no rain on another city; one field would have rain, and the field on which it did not rain would wither;8 so two or three cities would wander to another city to drink water, and would not be satisfied; yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD.9 “I struck you with blight and mildew; your many gardens and your vineyards, your fig trees and your olive trees the locust devoured; yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD.10 “I sent among you a pestilence after the manner of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, and carried away your horses, and I made the stench of your camp go up into your nostrils; yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD.11 “I overthrew some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and  Gomorrah, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning; yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD.12 “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”13 For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name! 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Though the wealthy had an abundance of material riches and offered sacrifices every morning and tithed every third day, God was disgusted with their offerings (vv. 4-5). God wanted Israel to return to Him, so He allowed for disaster to come upon them: hunger, drought, pestilence, locusts, plagues, wars, and earthquakes would bring about national disaster. Even so, their hardened hearts refused to repent. God’s mercy and long-suffering reached their limit—no more grace and compassion were to be expected. God said He would show them clearly who He was (vv. 6-13).

부자들은 넘쳐나는 물질로 아침마다 제물을 바치고 삼 일마다 십일조를 하지만, 하나님은 그들의 제물을 역겨워하십니다(4-5절). 하나님은 이스라엘이 돌아오길 원하시며 재난을 허락하십니다. 굶주림, 가뭄, 병충해, 메뚜기, 전염병, 전쟁, 지진으로 국가적인 재앙을 치렀음에도 그들의 굳은 마음은 회개를 거부합니다. 하나님의 자비와 오래 참으심도 이제 한계에 다다랐습니다. 더 이상의 은혜와 긍휼은 기대할 수 없습니다. 하나님은 자신이 누군지 분명하게 보여주겠다고 하십니다(6-13절).

Who is God?

Vv. 4-5 God knew that at the heart, Israel’s worship was empty. The more they “worshipped,” the more sinful they became. They tried to make up for their unrighteousness through grandiose offerings and countless sacrifices, but God never accepted such offerings and sacrifices. There is nothing more hypocritical than religious fervour without true conversion.

이스라엘이 예배하는 속내를 아십니다. 이스라엘은 예배를 드릴수록 죄를 더하는 모순을 범합니다. 그들은 거창한 제의로 자기 실체를 감추고 수많은 제물로 불의를 만회하려 하지만 하나님은 결코 그 제의와 제물을 열납하지 않으십니다. 진정한 회심 없는 종교적 열심보다 더 위선적인 일은 없습니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 12-13 No one can hide from the presence of the Lord forever. We are bound to either meet God the judge or God the forgiver, so we do well to prepare diligently for that meeting. Amos continually criticizes a love for material wealth and mistreatment of the weak. What is my attitude toward these things?

영원히 하나님의 낯을 피할 수 있는 사람은 없습니다. 심판하시는 하나님을 만날 것인지, 용서하시는 하나님을 만날 것인지, 오늘 내 준비에 달렸습니다. 아모스가 반복하여 지적하는 재물과 세상의 약자들을 향한 내 태도는 어떻습니까?

Lord, I repent for any time my faith was simply lip service. Help me to work out my faith, even in small ways.
