선지자는 하나님의 엄혹한 심판 속에서 하나님의 본심, 다함이 없는 인자와 긍휼을 발견합니다. 그러자 절망적인 상황에서 소망을 품게 됩니다.

[ 예레미야 애가 3:19 - 3:39 ] (찬송279장)

19내 고초와 재난 곧 쑥과 담즙을 기억하소서 20내 마음이 그것을 기억하고 내가 낙심이 되오나 21이것을 내가 내 마음에 담아 두었더니 그것이 오히려 나의 소망이 되었사옴은 22. 여호와의 인자와 긍휼이 무궁하시므로 우리가 진멸되지 아니함이니이다 23. 이것들이 아침마다 새로우니 주의 성실하심이 크시도소이다 24. 내 심령에 이르기를 여호와는 나의 기업이시니 그러므로 내가 그를 바라리라 하도다

 25기다리는 자들에게나 구하는 영혼들에게 여호와는 선하시도다 26사람이 여호와의 구원을 바라고 잠잠히 기다림이 좋도다 27사람은 젊었을 때에 멍에를 메는 것이 좋으니 28혼자 앉아서 잠잠할 것은 주께서 그것을 그에게 메우셨음이라 29그대의 입을 땅의 티끌에 댈지어다 혹시 소망이 있을지로다 30자기를 치는 자에게 뺨을 돌려대어 치욕으로 배불릴지어다 31이는 주께서 영원하도록 버리지 아니하실 것임이며 32그가 비록 근심하게 하시나 그의 풍부한 인자하심에 따라 긍휼히 여기실 것임이라 33주께서 인생으로 고생하게 하시며 근심하게 하심은 본심이 아니시로다

 34세상에 있는 모든 갇힌 자들을 발로 밟는 것과 35지존자의 얼굴 앞에서 사람의 재판을 굽게 하는 것과 36사람의 송사를 억울하게 하는 것은 다 주께서 기쁘게 보시는 것이 아니로다

 37주의 명령이 아니면 누가 이것을 능히 말하여 이루게 할 수 있으랴 38화와 복이 지존자의 입으로부터 나오지 아니하느냐 39살아 있는 사람은 자기 죄들 때문에 벌을 받나니 어찌 원망하랴

[ Lamentations 3:19 - 3:39 ] 

19Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall!20 My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me.21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.24 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”25 The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.26 It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.28 Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him;29 let him put his mouth in the dust— there may yet be hope;30 let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults.31 For the Lord will not cast off forever,32 but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love;33 for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.34 To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,35 to deny a man justice in the presence of the Most High,36 to subvert a man in his lawsuit, the Lord does not approve.37 Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?39 Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins? 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

As Jeremiah meditated upon God from a place of suffering, he discovered he could place hope in God’s loving and compassionate character, which would not fail His people. With his eyes fixed on God’s character, he began searching for answers to his suffering. The answer he got was to humbly endure the pain, shame, and yoke of the present suffering; he was to wait for God’s deliverance and not complain about the punishment being received as a nation, which had come upon them because they had oppressed the weak, violated human rights, and rendered unjust judgment (vv. 19-39). 

예레미야는 고통의 자리에서 하나님을 묵상하며 새로운 희망을 발견합니다. 그것은 자기 백성에게 끝없이 사랑과 긍휼을 베푸시는 하나님의 성품입니다. 하나님의 성품에 주목한 시인은 혼란스러운 현실에 대한 답을 찾기 시작합니다. 하나님의 구원을 기다리며 겸손하게 지금의 고통과 수모와 멍에를 참고 견디고, 받는 벌을 불평하지 않는 것입니다. 사회적 약자를 억압하고, 인권을 유린하고, 불의한 판결을 내린 죄 때문에 받는 벌이기 때문입니다(19-39절). 

Who is God?

Vv. 22-24 God is full of mercy and compassion. Disappointment, frustration, and pain are a part of life, but the Lord is always there to embrace us with new mercies, forgiveness, and love. What challenges are you facing right now? Let us look to the Lord for mercy and compassion. 

인자와 긍휼이 무궁하십니다. 실망과 좌절과 고통은 삶의 동반자인 양 늘 우리를 찾아오지만, 그때마다 주님도 어김없이 찾아오셔서 위로와 용서와 사랑으로 새로운 아침을 맞게 하십니다. 지금 어떤 어려움에 처해 있습니까? 인자와 긍휼을 베푸실 주님을 바라봅시다. 

Vv. 34-39 The Lord is a God of justice and equity, who never torments or afflicts the innocent, but rather, protects and vindicates the weak and helpless. When hardships come, let us not grumble, but consider what God has done for us.

정의와 공평의 하나님이십니다. 결코 무고한 사람을 괴롭히거나 고생시키지 않고, 도리어 약자를 보호하시고 억울한 일 당한 사람을 신원해주시는 분입니다. 그러니 고난이 올 때 원망하지 말고, 고난을 주신 뜻이 무엇인지 생각합시다.
