시인은 사람의 지혜로 감당치 못할 생의 풍랑에서 건지시고 세상에 정의를 바로 세우시는 하나님을 찬양합니다. 

[ 시편 107:23 - 107:43 ] (찬송390장)

23배들을 바다에 띄우며 큰 물에서 일을 하는 자는 24여호와께서 행하신 일들과 그의 기이한 일들을 깊은 바다에서 보나니 25여호와께서 명령하신즉 광풍이 일어나 바다 물결을 일으키는도다 26그들이 하늘로 솟구쳤다가 깊은 곳으로 내려가나니 그 위험 때문에 그들의 영혼이 녹는도다 27그들이 이리저리 구르며 취한 자 같이 비틀거리니 그들의 모든 지각이 혼돈 속에 빠지는도다 28이에 그들이 그들의 고통 때문에 여호와께 부르짖으매 그가 그들의 고통에서 그들을 인도하여 내시고 29광풍을 고요하게 하사 물결도 잔잔하게 하시는도다 30그들이 평온함으로 말미암아 기뻐하는 중에 여호와께서 그들이 바라는 항구로 인도하시는도다 31여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기적으로 말미암아 그를 찬송할지로다 32백성의 모임에서 그를 높이며 장로들의 자리에서 그를 찬송할지로다

 33여호와께서는 강이 변하여 광야가 되게 하시며 샘이 변하여 마른 땅이 되게 하시며 34그 주민의 악으로 말미암아 옥토가 변하여 염전이 되게 하시며 35또 광야가 변하여 못이 되게 하시며 마른 땅이 변하여 샘물이 되게 하시고 36주린 자들로 거기에 살게 하사 그들이 거주할 성읍을 준비하게 하시고 37밭에 파종하며 포도원을 재배하여 풍성한 소출을 거두게 하시며 38또 복을 주사 그들이 크게 번성하게 하시고 그의 가축이 감소하지 아니하게 하실지라도 39다시 압박과 재난과 우환을 통하여 그들의 수를 줄이시며 낮추시는도다 40여호와께서 고관들에게는 능욕을 쏟아 부으시고 길 없는 황야에서 유리하게 하시나 41궁핍한 자는 그의 고통으로부터 건져 주시고 그의 가족을 양 떼 같이 지켜 주시나니 42정직한 자는 보고 기뻐하며 모든 사악한 자는 자기 입을 봉하리로다 43지혜 있는 자들은 이러한 일들을 지켜 보고 여호와의 인자하심을 깨달으리로다

23Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters;24 they saw the deeds of the LORD, his wondrous works in the deep.25 For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea.26 They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths; their courage melted away in their evil plight;27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men and were at their wits' end.28 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.30 Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.31 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!32 Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.33 He turns rivers into a desert,  springs of water into thirsty ground,34 a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants.35 He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.36 And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in;37 they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield.38 By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish.39 When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow,40 he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes;41 but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks.42 The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth.43 Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.  

Thinking & Understanding

The psalmist sings of the Lord’s salvation from the perspective of sailors. All the sailors’ wisdom is useless in the face of the great storms and waves that God has created. When they cry out to the Lord, trusting not in their own navigational skills but on Him, He delivers them (vv. 23-32). The psalmist then sings of a God who brings justice and compassion to the world. God punishes the powerful who oppress and He cares for the weak who are robbed. True wisdom is knowing this is God’s benevolence (vv. 33-43).

시인은 항해자들이 경험한 주님의 구원을 노래합니다. 하나님이 일으키신 큰 폭풍과 태산 같은 물결 앞에서 항해자의 모든 지혜가 아무 소용이 없습니다. 자신의 항해술이 아닌 주님을 의지하여 부르짖자 드디어 주님이 건져주십니다(23-32절). 이어서 시인은 세상에 정의와 긍휼을 베푸시는 하나님을 노래합니다. 하나님은 억압하는 권력자들은 벌하시고, 수탈당하던 약자들은 돌보십니다. 진정한 지혜는 이런 하나님의 인자하심을 아는 것입니다(33-43절).

Who is God?

Vv. 23-30 God gives us trials to make us depend on Him. When the sailors face a storm they cannot handle, they abandon their own wisdom and cling to the Lord. That is when God comes to their rescue. Is there a storm in your life that you cannot control? Cry out to God, for He will surely lead you to a harbour of peace and fulfilment.

하나님을 의지하게 하려고 시련을 주기도 하십니다. 항해자들은 자신들이 감당치 못할 풍랑 앞에서 자기 지혜를 버리고 주님께 매달렸습니다. 바로 그때 하나님이 구출해주셨습니다. 내 인생에도 제어하기 힘든 폭풍이 눈앞에 있습니까? 하나님께 부르짖으십시오. 하나님이 반드시 소원의 항구로 인도해주실 것입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

V. 43 Everything around us reveals God’s mercy. His mercy is great and amazing. He does not save people because of their good deeds, but because He has compassion on them. People’s sin causes suffering while God’s grace brings rest. Let us be a conduit of God’s grace in the places where people’s sins have caused suffering.

모든 일이 하나님의 인자하심을 드러냅니다. 사람의 선한 행위 때문에 구원하신 것이 아니라, 그들의 처지를 불쌍히 여겨 구원하셨으니 주님의 인자하심이 크고 놀랍습니다. 사람의 죄는 고통을 일으키고 하나님의 은혜는 안식을 가져다줍니다. 사람들의 탐욕과 죄가 만든 고통의 현장에 인자하신 하나님의 은혜를 전달하는 통로가 됩시다.

Prayer

Lord God, may our suffering serve as turning points to draw us closer to you. Give us the wisdom to recognize and receive your mercy.
