이웃 나라에 심판을 선포하신 공의의 하나님이 이제 택하신 백성인 유다와 이스라엘에도 심판의 메시지를 선포하십니다.

[ 아모스 2:4 - 2:16 ] (찬송28장)

4여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 유다의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 여호와의 율법을 멸시하며 그 율례를 지키지 아니하고 그의 조상들이 따라가던 거짓 것에 미혹되었음이라 5내가 유다에 불을 보내리니 예루살렘의 궁궐들을 사르리라

 6여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 이스라엘의 서너 가지 죄로 말미암아 내가 그 벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 은을 받고 의인을 팔며 신 한 켤레를 받고 가난한 자를 팔며 7힘 없는 자의 머리를 티끌 먼지 속에 발로 밟고 연약한 자의 길을 굽게 하며 아버지와 아들이 한 젊은 여인에게 다녀서 내 거룩한 이름을 더럽히며 8모든 제단 옆에서 전당 잡은 옷 위에 누우며 그들의 신전에서 벌금으로 얻은 포도주를 마심이니라

 9내가 아모리 사람을 그들 앞에서 멸하였나니 그 키는 백향목 높이와 같고 강하기는 상수리나무 같으나 내가 그 위의 열매와 그 아래의 뿌리를 진멸하였느니라 10내가 너희를 애굽 땅에서 이끌어 내어 사십 년 동안 광야에서 인도하고 아모리 사람의 땅을 너희가 차지하게 하였고 11또 너희 아들 중에서 선지자를, 너희 청년 중에서 나실인을 일으켰나니 이스라엘 자손들아 과연 그렇지 아니하냐 이는 여호와의 말씀이니라 12그러나 너희가 나실 사람으로 포도주를 마시게 하며 또 선지자에게 명령하여 예언하지 말라 하였느니라

 13보라 곡식 단을 가득히 실은 수레가 흙을 누름 같이 내가 너희를 누르리니 14빨리 달음박질하는 자도 도망할 수 없으며 강한 자도 자기 힘을 낼 수 없으며 용사도 자기 목숨을 구할 수 없으며 15활을 가진 자도 설 수 없으며 발이 빠른 자도 피할 수 없으며 말 타는 자도 자기 목숨을 구할 수 없고 16용사 가운데 그 마음이 굳센 자도 그 날에는 벌거벗고 도망하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

전체   택하신 백성도 심판하십니다. 말씀을 무시하고 거짓에 미혹되어 방종하게 산다면 하나님의 백성이라도 심판을 피할 수 없습니다. 하나님은 자기 백성이라 하여 무조건 감싸지 않으십니다. 오래 참고 기다리시지만 죄가 도를 넘고 율법을 멸시하며 하나님과 관계없는 삶으로 이탈한다면 공의를 행하십니다. 우리가 하나님의 자녀라고 해서 모든 것이 허용되는 것은 아님을 기억해야 합니다. 죄와 악을 버리고 말씀 앞에 겸허히 서서 그 말씀을 따라 삽시다.

9-12절   이스라엘 백성을 애굽에서 구원하시고 광야에서도 신실하게 인도하셨으며, 약속의 땅에서도 승리를 주시고 끊임없이 지도자를 보내어 말씀으로 인도하셨습니다. 육신의 길만이 아니라 영혼의 길도 인도하시는 하나님이 지금도 우리 삶을 돌보시며 말씀으로 인도하고 계십니다. 하나님의 은혜를 잊고 말씀을 무시하며 하나님을 반역한 이스라엘과 다르게, 오늘도 그 말씀 앞에 겸허히 서서 말씀의 인도를 따릅시다.

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

전체   뭇 나라는 이웃에 대한 비인격적인 태도와 잔인함으로 인하여 심판을 받지만 하나님의 백성은 하나님이 주신 땅에서 하나님의 말씀을 버린 것으로 인하여 심판을 받습니다. 유다와 이스라엘의 종교적 행위가  다른 모든 문제를 대체할 수 있다는 뜻이 아니라, 하나님을 섬기는 것은 이웃을 섬기는 것까지 포함하는 더 높은 차원의 도덕과 사회적 책임을 요구한다는 뜻입니다. 

6-8절   북왕국 이스라엘에서는 부유하고 힘 있는 자들이 가난하고 힘없는 자들을 짓밟았습니다. 빚 때문에 가족이 노예로 내몰리고, 저당 잡힌 옷을 돌려받지 못해 추운 밤을 보내는 사람이 있습니다. 반면, 빼앗은 옷을 잠잘 때 깔고 빼앗은 포도주를 마시는 사람이 있습니다. 빼앗은 자들은 이 일들을 제단과 산당에서 자행하고 있습니다. 약자에 대한 착취와 억압이 하나님에 대한 종교적 열심과 공존하고 있는 것입니다. 내 삶에는 은혜로운 말씀에 대한 열심과 고통스러운 이웃의 현실에 대한 관심이 공존하고 있습니까?

[ Amos 2:4 - 2:16 ]

4Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have rejected the law of the LORD, and have not kept his statutes, but their lies have led them astray, those after which their fathers walked.5 So I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the strongholds of Jerusalem.”6 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals—7 those who trample the head of the poor into the dust of the earth and turn aside the way of the afflicted; a man and his father go in to the same girl, so that my holy name is profaned;8 they lay themselves down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.9 “Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before  them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and who was as strong as the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.10 Also it was I who brought you up out of the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.11 And I raised up some of your sons for prophets, and some of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not indeed so, O people of Israel?” declares the LORD.12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine, and commanded the prophets, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy.’13 “Behold, I will press you down in your place, as a cart full of sheaves presses down.14 Flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not retain his strength, nor shall the mighty save his life;15 he who handles the bow shall not stand, and he who is swift of foot shall not save himself, nor shall he who rides the horse save his life;16 and he who is stout of heart among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day,” declares the LORD. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God foretold judgment against Judah and Israel. Judah had forsaken God’s covenant and had gone after false gods. Israel had become religiously and sexually corrupt, with the rich trampling on the poor and taking what was not theirs (vv. 4-8). God had been very gracious to the Israelites over the years, but they still chose to sin (vv. 9-12). Eventually, God would bring His judgment upon Israel through war. He would judge Israel thoroughly, just as dirt is pressed down when a heavily loaded cart passes by (vv. 13-16). 

남유다와 북이스라엘을 향한 심판을 예고하십니다. 유다는 하나님의 말씀을 저버리고 거짓 신들을 쫓았습니다. 이스라엘의 부자들을 가난한 사람들을 짓밟고 그들의 것을 빼앗으며, 종교적으로나 성적으로 타락하였습니다(4-8절). 하나님은 이스라엘 백성에게 많은 은혜를 베푸셨지만, 그들은 죄짓기를 멈추지 않았습니다(9-12절). 결국 하나님은 전쟁으로 이스라엘을 심판하십니다. 마치 짐을 가득 실은 수레가 지나갈 때 땅이 짓눌리듯이 이스라엘을 철저하게 심판하실 것입니다(13-16절). 

Who is God?

Vv. 9-12 God brought the people of Israel to where they are today. He was the one who brought them out of the shadow of bondage and oppression into a land flowing with milk and honey. For Israel to exist without God is unthinkable. Today, let us be aware of God’s continued grace as He works in our lives and challenges us. 

이스라엘 백성의 오늘이 있게 하신 분입니다. 속박과 압제의 그늘에서 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 산지로 이끄신 분입니다. 하나님 없는 이스라엘이란 생각할 수도 없습니다. 오늘도 내 삶속에서 간섭하시고 도전하시는 하나님의 계속된 은혜를 만나보십시오.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 13-16 On the day of judgment, no one would escape God’s wrath. His judgment would fall on not just one city, as it was with the Gentile nations, but it would fall on all of Israel. It would be a severe reprimand from God Himself. If we are deep in a sin that has become too easy to commit again and again, it is time to stop and turn around because we know God does not condone it.

심판의 날에는 누구도 하나님의 진노를 피할 수 없습니다. 심판의 범위가 이방 나라들처럼 한 도시나 통치자가 아닌 이스라엘 전체에 임할 뿐 아니라, 하나님이 직접 행하시는 강도 높은 심판이 될 것입니다. 어쩌다 잘 넘어간 죄악이 하나님의 묵인은 아니기에 이제라도 멈추고 돌아서야 합니다.

Lord God, help us to live with your heart, imitating you, who is a father to orphans and caretaker of widows.
