하나님은 이스라엘의 죄목을 열거하시며 그들이 지은 구체적인 죄악상을 드러내시고, 엄중한 심판을 경고하십니다.

[ 아모스 3:9 - 4:3 ] (찬송522장)

9아스돗의 궁궐들과 애굽 땅의 궁궐들에 선포하여 이르기를 너희는 사마리아 산들에 모여 그 성 중에서 얼마나 큰 요란함과 학대함이 있나 보라 하라 10자기 궁궐에서 포학과 겁탈을 쌓는 자들이 바른 일 행할 줄을 모르느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라

 11그러므로 주 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 이 땅 사면에 대적이 있어 네 힘을 쇠하게 하며 네 궁궐을 약탈하리라 12여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 목자가 사자 입에서 양의 두 다리나 귀 조각을 건져냄과 같이 사마리아에서 침상 모서리에나 걸상의 방석에 앉은 이스라엘 자손도 건져냄을 입으리라 13주 여호와 만군의 하나님의 말씀이니라 너희는 듣고 야곱의 족속에게 증언하라 14내가 이스라엘의 모든 죄를 보응하는 날에 벧엘의 제단들을 벌하여 그 제단의 뿔들을 꺾어 땅에 떨어뜨리고 15겨울 궁과 여름 궁을 치리니 상아 궁들이 파괴되며 큰 궁들이 무너지리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 

 4:1사마리아의 산에 있는 바산의 암소들아 이 말을 들으라 너희는 힘 없는 자를 학대하며 가난한 자를 압제하며 가장에게 이르기를 술을 가져다가 우리로 마시게 하라 하는도다 2주 여호와께서 자기의 거룩함을 두고 맹세하시되 때가 너희에게 이를지라 사람이 갈고리로 너희를 끌어 가며 낚시로 너희의 남은 자들도 그리하리라 3너희가 성 무너진 데를 통하여 각기 앞으로 바로 나가서 하르몬에 던져지리라 여호와의 말씀이니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

9절   이스라엘 심판에 아스돗의 궁궐들과 애굽의 궁궐들을 증인으로 소환하십니다. 사실 이들 나라에겐 이스라엘을 판단할 증인의 자격이 없습니다. 블레셋은 이스라엘을 수시로 습격하며 내내 대적했고, 애굽은 이스라엘을 압제하며 종으로 부린 나라이기 때문입니다. 그럼에도 그들에게 이스라엘을 판단할 자격이 주어진다는 것은 이스라엘의 죄가 얼마나 극심한지를 역설적으로 보여주는 것입니다. 하나님의 거룩함을 세상에 나타내어야 하는 교회인데, 하나님이 교회의 죄와 부정함을 고발하기 위해 세상을 증인으로 부르시는 일만은 없도록 조심하고 경계합시다. 

11절   이방을 증인으로 부르실 뿐 아니라 이방을 들어 자기 백성을 벌하기도 하십니다. 이스라엘은 선민인 자신들이 이방인에게 화를 당하는 일은 없을 것이라고 생각할지 모르지만, 하나님은 택한 백성의 정화를 위해 이방인을 들어 징계의 도구로 사용하십니다. 선지자를 통해 주시는 말씀에도 귀를 닫고 이방 민족의 고발에도 돌이키지 않는 자기 백성을 위해 하나님이 택하시는 최후 수단인 것입니다. 이에 이르기 전에 어서 돌이키고 뉘우쳐야 합니다.

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

전체   이스라엘의 대표적인 죄는 포학과 겁탈입니다(10절). 포학은 폭력을 뜻하고 겁탈은 착취를 의미하기에 이 죄목을 통해 이스라엘의 과도한 폭력성과 지나친 탐욕을 짐작할 수 있습니다. 그들은 힘없는 자를 학대하고 가난한 자를 압제하여(4:1), 겨울 별장과 여름 별장을 짓고 상아 별장을 만들어 사치한 삶을 살며(3:15) 마시고 즐기는 방탕한 삶을 이어갑니다(4:1). 이에 하나님은 그들을 심판하실 때 그들이 행한 폭력과 겁탈이 그들에게 그대로 임할 것이라고 하십니다. 양이 사자에게 물리면 겨우 다리뼈나 귀 조각이 남는 것처럼 처참한 심판이 있을 것이라 하십니다. 하나님은 공의로우십니다. 약하고 가난한 이들의 삶을 짓밟고 유린한 악인들에게 반드시 보응하십니다. 그러니 힘 있는 자는 약자를 돌아보고 힘없는 자는 하나님의 도우심을 기억하며 오늘을 믿음으로 살아야 할 것입니다.

9Proclaim to the strongholds in Ashdod and to the strongholds in the land of Egypt, and say, “Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria, and see the great tumults within her, and the oppressed in her midst.”10 “They do not know how to do right,” declares the LORD, “those who store up violence and robbery in their  strongholds.”11 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “An adversary shall surround the land and bring down your defenses from you, and your strongholds shall be plundered.”12 Thus says the LORD: “As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the people of Israel who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part of a bed.13 “Hear, and testify against the house of Jacob,” declares the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,14 “that on the day I punish Israel for his transgressions, I will punish the altars of Bethel, and the horns of the altar shall be cut off and fall to the ground.15 I will strike the winter house along with the summer house, and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall come to an end,” declares the LORD.4 :1“Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your husbands, ‘Bring, that we may drink!’2 The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness that, behold, the days are coming upon you, when they shall take you away with hooks,  even the last of you with fishhooks.3 And you shall go out through the breaches, each one straight ahead; and you shall be cast out into Harmon,” declares the LORD. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God invited the Gentile nations Ashdod and Egypt to see Israel’s corruption from the top of a mountain and pronounce His judgment on them. God would send an army of foreign enemies to crush Israel. Their esteemed fortresses would be torn down and plundered. The luxurious, stately buildings that had been built by the wealthy would be torn down. The upper-class, who indulged in taking the riches of the Canaanites, would be taken into captivity and be humiliated (3:9-4:3).

하나님은 이방 민족인 블레셋(아스돗)과 이집트를 이스라엘로 불러 산 위에서 이스라엘의 타락상을 보게 하십니다. 그리고 이스라엘에게 하나님의 심판을 선포하십니다. 하나님은 이방의 적군을 보내 이스라엘을 짓밟으실 것입니다. 그들이 그렇게 자랑하던 요새는 낱낱이 파괴되고 약탈당할 것입니다. 부유한 사람들이 왕처럼 지은 별장과 상아로 화려하게 지은 집들도 무너뜨리실 것입니다. 가난한 사람들의 재물을 빼앗아 향락에 빠진 상류층 귀부인들은 포로로 끌려가 수모를 당할 것입니다(3:9-4:3)

Who is God?

4:1-3 God surely repays those who have held leadership positions yet abuse the poor and fill their own pockets. When we do not fear God and turn a blind eye to the suffering of our neighbours, we are unable to enjoy our abundance because worries and danger will be attached to such prosperity.

가난한 자를 돌보지 않고 학대하며 자신의 배를 채우는 사회 지도층 인사들의 행위를 그대로 두시지 않고 반드시 갚아주십니다. 하나님을 두려워하지 않고 이웃의 고통을 외면하면서 누리는 모든 것은 불안한 풍요요 위험한 번영일 뿐입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

3:10 The Israelites did not know how to do what was right. The more they sinned, the harder it was to remember what God wanted. The slower we deal with our sin, the more dominance it has over us. Ask God to always remind you of His Word so that you may discern what He wants. 

이스라엘 백성은 바른 일 하는 법을 알지 못했습니다. 그들이 죄를 지을수록 하나님이 원하시는 것을 기억하기가 더 어려워졌습니다. 우리 죄를 천천히 처리할수록 죄의 지배력이 더 커집니다. 하나님이 무엇을 원하시는지 분별할 수 있도록 항상 하나님의 말씀을 기억하게 해달라고 기도합시다. 또 당신의 신념을 따를 용기와 힘을 달라고 간구하십시오.

Prayer

Dear God, help me to not give in to the desires of the flesh nor the ways of my heart. Help me to not make foolish choices.
