하나님은 다섯째 환상을 통해 확고한 심판 의지를 내비치십니다. 나아가 무너진 다윗 언약의 성취를 선포하시고 확실한 회복을 약속하십니다.   

[ 아모스 9:1 - 9:15 ] (찬송210장)

1내가 보니 주께서 제단 곁에 서서 이르시되 기둥 머리를 쳐서 문지방이 움직이게 하며 그것으로 부서져서 무리의 머리에 떨어지게 하라 내가 그 남은 자를 칼로 죽이리니 그 중에서 한 사람도 도망하지 못하며 그 중에서 한 사람도 피하지 못하리라 2그들이 파고 스올로 들어갈지라도 내 손이 거기에서 붙잡아 낼 것이요 하늘로 올라갈지라도 내가 거기에서 붙잡아 내릴 것이며 3갈멜 산 꼭대기에 숨을지라도 내가 거기에서 찾아낼 것이요 내 눈을 피하여 바다 밑에 숨을지라도 내가 거기에서 뱀을 명령하여 물게 할 것이요 4그 원수 앞에 사로잡혀 갈지라도 내가 거기에서 칼을 명령하여 죽이게 할 것이라 내가 그들에게 주목하여 화를 내리고 복을 내리지 아니하리라 하시니라

 5주 만군의 여호와는 땅을 만져 녹게 하사 거기 거주하는 자가 애통하게 하시며 그 온 땅이 강의 넘침 같이 솟아 오르며 애굽 강 같이 낮아지게 하시는 이요 6그의 궁전을 하늘에 세우시며 그 궁창의 기초를 땅에 두시며 바닷물을 불러 지면에 쏟으시는 이니 그 이름은 여호와시니라

 7여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 자손들아 너희는 내게 구스 족속 같지 아니하냐 내가 이스라엘을 애굽 땅에서, 블레셋 사람을 갑돌에서, 아람 사람을 기르에서 올라오게 하지 아니하였느냐 8보라 주 여호와의 눈이 범죄한 나라를 주목하노니 내가 그것을 지면에서 멸하리라 그러나 야곱의 집은 온전히 멸하지는 아니하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 9보라 내가 명령하여 이스라엘 족속을 만국 중에서 체질하기를 체로 체질함 같이 하려니와 그 한 알갱이도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라 10내 백성 중에서 말하기를 화가 우리에게 미치지 아니하며 이르지 아니하리라 하는 모든 죄인은 칼에 죽으리라

 11그 날에 내가 다윗의 무너진 장막을 일으키고 그것들의 틈을 막으며 그 허물어진 것을 일으켜서 옛적과 같이 세우고 12그들이 에돔의 남은 자와 내 이름으로 일컫는 만국을 기업으로 얻게 하리라 이 일을 행하시는 여호와의 말씀이니라 13여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 날이 이를지라 그 때에 파종하는 자가 곡식 추수하는 자의 뒤를 이으며 포도를 밟는 자가 씨 뿌리는 자의 뒤를 이으며 산들은 단 포도주를 흘리며 작은 산들은 녹으리라 14내가 내 백성 이스라엘이 사로잡힌 것을 돌이키리니 그들이 황폐한 성읍을 건축하여 거주하며 포도원들을 가꾸고 그 포도주를 마시며 과원들을 만들고 그 열매를 먹으리라 15내가 그들을 그들의 땅에 심으리니 그들이 내가 준 땅에서 다시 뽑히지 아니하리라 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀이니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

1-4절   제단 곁에 서서 이스라엘을 머리부터 발끝까지 철저히 심판하십니다. 하나님은 하늘 위든 땅속 깊은 곳이든 어디든지 찾아가 벌하시고, 거짓과 탐욕에 물든 모든 사람을 예외 없이 심판의 자리에 세우십니다. 성전이 하나님의 이름을 드높이는 예배의 장소가 아니라, 자기 욕심을 채우는 탐욕의 장소로 변질되었기 때문입니다. 하나님과의 교제가 사라진 곳은 ‘복’이 아닌 ‘화’가 내리는 장소가 됩니다. 하나님의 확고한 심판 앞에서 우리는 무엇을 해야겠습니까? 주님의 몸 된 교회와 주의 성전인 내 모습을 직면하고 돌이킴의 첫발을 내디뎌야 하지 않겠습니까? 

5-10절   땅을 ‘만져’ 떨게 하시고 강과 바다를 주관하시는 전능하신 주권자이십니다. 온 땅과 열방을 다스리시는 하나님은 이스라엘과 변방에 사는 이방 민족을 구분하지 않으십니다. 하나님 앞에서 특별한 관계를 자랑하던 이스라엘도 엄격한 심판과 형벌 앞에서 예외일 수 없습니다. 자동적인 용서의 특권을 자부하던 이스라엘에게 “너희는 내게 에티오피아 족속과 다르지 않다”고 답하십니다. 이스라엘을 애굽에서 건지시고 온갖 대적의 손에서 건지셨지만, 그들의 죄까지 눈감으시지 않습니다. 우리가 신앙의 연수를 계수하기 전에 신앙의 책임을 다하는 데 더 많은 관심을 두어야 하는 이유입니다. 뒤늦게라도 책임감 있는 모습으로 하나님 앞에 선다면, 하나님은 체질하는 심판 후에 확실한 회복을 선물로 주실 것입니다.

11-15절   모든 죄를 완전히 벌하신 이후에 자기 백성을 다시 일으켜 만복의 근원으로 삼으십니다. 불순종한 자에게 임한 언약의 저주를 거두시고, 다윗의 무너진 장막을 다시 세워 전례 없는 화평의 날을 누리게 하실 것입니다(삼하 7:12,13). 두 나라로 분열된 다윗의 왕국은 다윗의 후손으로 오실 예수님을 통해 온전한 회복과 연합을 이룰 것입니다. 에돔의 남은 자가 돌아오듯이 유대인과 이방인이 한데 어울리는 예수 공동체를 이룰 것입니다(행 15:15-18). 이처럼 하나님은 심판 중에도 긍휼을 거두지 않으시고 아름다운 미래를 보게 하십니다.

[ Amos 9:1 - 9:15 ]

1I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said: “Strike the capitals until the thresholds shake, and shatter them on the heads of all the people; and those who are left of them I will kill with the sword; not one of them shall flee away; not one of them shall escape.2 “If they dig into Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; if they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down.3 If they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, from there I will search them out and take them; and if they hide from my sight at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them.4 And if they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword, and it shall kill them; and I will fix my eyes upon them for evil and not for good.”5 The Lord GOD of hosts, he who touches the earth and it melts, and all who dwell in it mourn, and all of it rises like the Nile, and sinks again, like the Nile of Egypt;6 who builds his upper chambers in the heavens and founds his vault upon the earth; who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out upon the surface of the earth— the LORD is his name.7 “Are you not like the Cushites to me, O people of Israel?” declares the LORD. “Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Syrians from Kir?8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the surface of the ground, except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.9 “For behold, I will command, and shake the house of Israel among all the nations as one shakes with a sieve, but no pebble shall fall to the earth.10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, ‘Disaster shall not overtake or meet us.’11 “In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,12 that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” declares the LORD who does this.13 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the plowman shall overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.14 I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.15 I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,” says the LORD your God. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God began His judgment by destroying the temple to show that He was not to be worshipped in vain. Israel had become complacent, believing that God would protect them no matter what. However, God showed them that they were no better than the people of other nations (vv. 1-10). Their upcoming judgment was not the end. Afterwards, God would rebuild Israel. He said He would restore the nation to its most prosperous days, as it was in the days of King David (vv. 11-15).

하나님은 성전을 무너뜨려 헛된 예배를 받지 않겠다는 것을 보여주시며 심판을 시작하십니다. 이스라엘은 하나님이 어떤 경우에라도 자신들을 지켜주시리라 믿고 자만했습니다. 그러나 하나님은 이스라엘 백성이 다른 민족과 다를 바가 없다며 그들의 착각을 버리게 하십니다(1-10절). 그러나 심판이 끝이 아닙니다. 심판이 끝난 후 하나님은 이스라엘을 다시 세우실 것입니다. 가장 풍요롭던 다윗 시대처럼 제국을 회복해주겠다고 말씀하십니다(11-15절).

Who is God?

Vv. 13-15 God restores. He brings back sinners, even those who seem to be beyond restoration. The Israelites were judged and taken into captivity, but God restored them again. God’s judgment was not a judgment that sought to end a relationship. Instead, it was a judgment that sought to correct wrongdoing and get His people back in right standing with Him.

회복케 하시는 분입니다. 회복이 불가능한 죄인일지라도 기필코 돌아오게 하십니다. 이스라엘 백성들은 심판을 받아 포로로 끌려가게 되겠지만 하나님은 그들을 다시 회복시킬 것입니다. 그러므로 하나님의 심판은 관계를 끝내는 심판이 아니라 잘못을 해결하고 다시 설 수 있게 하는 심판입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 7-10 Israel deceived herself with a false theology that sought privileges while ignoring the responsibilities as God’s people. Examine yourself and consider whether you also make light of sin and justify disobedience with a false sense of security and unfounded confidence.

선민의 책임은 외면한 채 특권만 주장하는 그릇된 신학으로 자신을 속인 이스라엘처럼, 거짓 안전과 근거 없는 확신으로 죄를 가볍게 여기고 불순종을 정당화하는 모습은 없는지 돌아봅시다.
