종교와 정치, 사회의 모든 질서가 무너지고 하나님의 성전이 있는 시온이 황폐화되는 고통을 토로합니다. 하지만 영원한 주의 보좌가 서도록 간구합니다.

[ 예레미야 애가 5:11 - 5:22 ] (찬송447장)

11대적들이 시온에서 부녀들을, 유다 각 성읍에서 처녀들을 욕보였나이다 12지도자들은 그들의 손에 매달리고 장로들의 얼굴도 존경을 받지 못하나이다 13청년들이 맷돌을 지며 아이들이 나무를 지다가 엎드러지오며 14노인들은 다시 성문에 앉지 못하며 청년들은 다시 노래하지 못하나이다

 15우리의 마음에는 기쁨이 그쳤고 우리의 춤은 변하여 슬픔이 되었사오며 16우리의 머리에서는 면류관이 떨어졌사오니 오호라 우리의 범죄 때문이니이다 17이러므로 우리의 마음이 피곤하고 이러므로 우리 눈들이 어두우며 18시온 산이 황폐하여 여우가 그 안에서 노나이다

 19여호와여 주는 영원히 계시오며 주의 보좌는 대대에 이르나이다 20주께서 어찌하여 우리를 영원히 잊으시오며 우리를 이같이 오래 버리시나이까 21여호와여 우리를 주께로 돌이키소서 그리하시면 우리가 주께로 돌아가겠사오니 우리의 날들을 다시 새롭게 하사 옛적 같게 하옵소서 22주께서 우리를 아주 버리셨사오며 우리에게 진노하심이 참으로 크시니이다

11Women are raped in Zion, young women in the towns of Judah.12 Princes are hung up by their hands; no respect is shown to the elders.13 Young men are compelled to grind at the mill, and boys stagger under loads of wood.14 The old men have left the city gate, the young men their music.15 The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has been turned to mourning.16 The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!17 For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim,18 for Mount Zion which lies desolate; jackals prowl over it.19 But you, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures to all generations.20 Why do you forget us forever, why do you forsake us for so many days?21 Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old—22 unless you have utterly rejected us, and you remain exceedingly angry with us. 

Thinking & Understanding

Jeremiah recounted the horrific experiences that each demographic in Israel went through. The leaders and elders were tortured or executed. Young men and children were made to work unto exhaustion by doing what animals or slaves had to do, and the remnant confessed that this had come upon them because of their sin (vv. 11-18). Knowing that returning to God was the only path to restoration, Jeremiah asked God to help Israel to return to Him and resolved that Israel would return to God. He pleaded with God to turn from His wrath and accept them once more (vv. 19-22).

예레미야는 사회를 구성하는 각 그룹의 참담한 경험을 이야기합니다. 지도자와 장로들은 고문당하거나 처형당합니다. 청년과 아이들은 동물이나 노예가 하던 일을 하며 생기를 잃었습니다. 생존자들은 이 모든 것이 자신들의 죄 때문이라고 고백합니다(11-18절). 하나님께 돌아가는 것만이 유일한 회복의 길이기에 예레미야는 주님께로 돌이켜 주시기를 간구하며, 동시에 우리가 주님께로 돌아가겠다고 결심합니다. 진노를 거두시고 다시 받아주시기를 간청합니다(19-22절).

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 11-17 A society that has lost sight of God suffers at all levels. The discrimination faced by the vulnerable today, the frustration and disorientation of young people, the overly competitive educational system, and the disrespect toward the elderly mirror what happened in Jerusalem. Those who seek God can help fix such societal issues. Let us as Christians take responsibility for helping fix such issues.

하나님을 잃어버린 사회는 모든 계층이 고통을 겪습니다. 오늘날 연약한 이들이 당하는 차별, 젊은이들의 좌절과 방황, 아이들이 겪는 지나친 경쟁, 노인들이 당하는 멸시가 예루살렘의 상황과 겹칩니다. 하나님을 찾는 자가 이런 사회상을 고칠 수 있습니다. 시대의 책임을 다하는 그리스도인이 됩시다.

V. 21 The fundamental solution to humanity’s problems is to turn to God. This is not something that can be done with simply our own willpower. It can, however, be done by relying on God’s power and through prayer. We must strengthen our hearts and take courage. 

인류 문제의 근본적인 해결은 하나님께 돌이키는 것입니다. 이것은 의지만으로 되는 것도 아니고, 의지 없이 되는 것도 아닙니다. 하나님의 능력에 기대어 간구해야 하고, 동시에 마음을 굳게 먹고 힘을 내야 합니다.

Prayer

Lord, renew us and the land we live in. Do not abandon us, but instead, have compassion on us.
