창조물을 보살핌 [ 창세기 1:26 - 1:31 ] - 찬송가 79 장
하늘은 여호와의 하늘이라도 땅은 사람에게 주셨도다 (시편 115:16)

“빅 브라운”이라는 갈색 송어가 가을에 둥지를 만드는 의식을 시작하면서 오위히 강에 알을 낳습니다. 우리는 그들이 자갈이 깔린 낮은 곳에 구멍을 파고 둥지를 만드는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
현명한 낚시꾼은 물고기들이 산란할 때 방해하면 안 된다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 그들은 알을 짓밟을까봐 자갈 위를 걸어 다니지 않으며, 둥지의 상류로 헤쳐 가서 혹시 그것들을 질식시킬지도 모를 잔해를 제거합니다. 그들은 둥지 근처에서 휴식을 취하고 있는 송어들을 보며 잡고 싶은 유혹을 느끼지만 참고 잡지 않습니다.
이런 조심성은 도덕적이고 책임 있는 낚시 예절의 한 모습이지만, 거기엔 보다 더 심오하고 고상한 이유가 있습니다.
성경은 하나님께서 이 세상을 우리 인간들에게 주셨다는 사실을 강조합니다(창 1:28-30). 그것은 우리에게 사용하라고 주신 것이지만, 그것을 사랑하는 사람으로서 사용해야 합니다.
나는 하나님의 손으로 지으신 것들을 골똘히 생각해봅니다. 계곡을 가로지르며 소리 지르는 메추라기, 싸움을 알리는 나팔을 부는 엘크 수사슴, 멀리 떨어진 곳에 보이는 영양 무리들, 강송어와 만화경 같은 장미 두더지, 새끼들과 함께 시냇가에서 놀고 있는 어미 수달. 나는 이 모든 것들을 사랑합니다. 왜냐하면 그것들은 내 하나님 아버지의 크신 사랑으로 나에게 기쁨을 주기 위해 내게 주신 것들이기 때문입니다.
그리고 내가 사랑하는 것을 나는 보호합니다.

• 하늘에 계신 아버지, 우리를 이곳에 두셔서 주님의 놀라운 창조를 생각하며 즐기게 하셨습니다. 주님이 만
드신 모든 것들이 제게 주님의 선하심과 사랑과 보살피심을 생각나게 해주소서.

26. 하나님이 이르시되 우리의 형상을 따라 우리의 모양대로 우리가 사람을 만들고 그들로 바다의 물고기
와 하늘의 새와 가축과 온 땅과 땅에 기는 모든 것을 다스리게 하자 하시고
27. 하나님이 자기 형상 곧 하나님의 형상대로 사람을 창조하시되 남자와 여자를 창조하시고
28. 하나님이 그들에게 복을 주시며 하나님이 그들에게 이르시되 생육하고 번성하여 땅에 충만하라, 땅을
정복하라, 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 땅에 움직이는 모든 생물을 다스리라 하시니라
29. 하나님이 이르시되 내가 온 지면의 씨 맺는 모든 채소와 씨 가진 열매 맺는 모든 나무를 너희에게 주
노니 너희의 먹을 거리가 되리라
30. 또 땅의 모든 짐승과 하늘의 모든 새와 생명이 있어 땅에 기는 모든 것에게는 내가 모든 푸른 풀을 먹
을 거리로 주노라 하시니 그대로 되니라
31. 하나님이 지으신 그 모든 것을 보시니 보시기에 심히 좋았더라 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니 이는 여섯째
날이니라

Creation Care [ Genesis 1:26 - 1:31 ] - hymn 79
The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind. (Psalm 115:16)

The “big browns” are spawning in the Owyhee River—brown trout beginning their fall nesting ritual. You can see them excavating their nests in the gravelly shallows.
Wise fishermen know that fish are spawning and try not to disturb them. They avoid walking on gravel bars where they might trample the eggs, or wading upstream from the nests where they might dislodge debris that can smother them. And they don’t fish for these trout, though it’s tempting to do so as they rest near their nests.
These precautions are part of an ethic that governs responsible fishing. But there is a deeper and a better cause.
The Scriptures stress the fact that God has given us the earth(Gen. 1:28–30). It is ours to use, but we must use it as those who love it.
I muse on the work of God’s hands: a partridge calling across a canyon, a bull elk bugling up a fight, a herd of antelope far off in the distance, a brook trout and its kaleidoscopic rose moles, a mother otter playing in a stream with her pups—I love all these things, for they have been given to me for my delight, out of my Father’s great love.

You have made remind us of Your goodness, love, and care.

26. Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish
of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground."
27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female
he created them.
28. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and
subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that
moves on the ground."
29. Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every
tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
30. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on
the ground -- everything that has the breath of life in it -- I give every green plant for food."
And it was so.
31. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was
morning -- the sixth day.
