짐승들에게 물어보라, Ask the Animals [욥기 12:7 - 12:10] - 찬송가 71장
이제 모든 짐승에게 물어 보라 그것들이 네게 가르치리라 공중의 새에게 물어보라 그것들이 또한 네게 말하리라 (욥기 12:7)

우리 손자들은 구조된 대머리독수리 한 마리를 가까이서 넋을 잃고 구경했습니다. 아이들은 또한 만져볼 기회까지 얻었습니다. 동물원 사육사는 자기 팔에 앉아 있는 그 웅대한 새에 대해 설명해주었습니다. 나는 이 독수리의 날개를 펼치면 길이가 2미터나 되는데도 그 날개 뼈 속이 비어 있어서 무게는 3.6킬로그램에 지나지 않는다는 사실에 많이 놀랐습니다.
이 새를 보면서 호수 위를 높이 날다가 갑자기 덮쳐 발톱으로 먹이를 낚아채려는 커다란 독수리가 떠올랐습니다. 그리고 호숫가에서 가는 다리로 미동도 없이 서 있는 모습을 몰래 지켜보았던 다른 큰 새, 왜가리의 모습도 그려보았습니다. 그 새는 긴 부리를 물속으로 내리 찌르기 위한 태세를 갖추고 있었습니다. 이 새들은 우리가 곧바로 창조주 하나님을 생각나게 해주는 거의 1만 종류의 새들 중 단지 두 종류에 지나지 않습니다.
욥기에서 욥의 친구들은 욥이 고난 받는 이유를 논쟁하며 “하나님의 오묘하심을 헤아릴 수 있는가?” 하고 묻습니다(11:5-9 참조). 욥은 그에 대해 “이제 모든 짐승에게 물어보라 그것들이 네게 가르치리라 공중의 새에게 물어보라 그것들이 또한 네게 말하리라”(욥 12:7)고 대답합니다. 짐승들은 하나님이 그 피조물들을 설계하셨고, 보호하시며 주관하신다는 진리를 증언합니다. “모든 생물의 생명과 모든 사람의 육신의 목숨이 다 그의 손에 있느니라”(10절).
새들도 보호하시는 하나님이시기 때문에(마 6:26, 10:29), 우리가 처한 상황이 이해가 되지 않을 때라도 하나님이 당신과 나를 사랑하시고 돌보시는 것을 확신할 수 있습니다. 주위를 둘러보고 하나님에 대해 알아가십시오.

• 하나님이 만드신 이 세상이 우리에게 하나님에 대해 가르쳐준다.

Ask the Animals [Job 12:7 - 12:10] - hymn 71
"But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; (Job 12:7)

Our grandkids, enraptured, got a close-up look at a rescued bald eagle. They were even allowed to touch him. As the zoo volunteer told about the powerful bird perched on her arm, I was surprised to learn this male had a wing-span of about six and one-half feet, yet because of its hollow bones it weighed only about eight pounds.
This reminded me of the majestic eagle I had seen soaring above a lake, ready to swoop down and snatch its prey in its talons. And I pictured in my mind another big bird—the spindly legged blue heron I had spied standing motionless on the edge of a pond. It was poised to dart its long beak into the water. They’re just two among the nearly 10,000 species of birds that can direct our thoughts to our Creator.
In the book of Job, Job’s friends are debating the reasons for his suffering and ask, “Can you fathom the mysteries of God?” (SEE 11:5–9). In response Job declares, “Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you” (JOB 12:7). Animals testify to the truth that God designed, cares for, and controls His creation: “In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind” (V. 10).
Since God cares for birds (MATTHEW 6:26; 10:29), we can be assured He loves and cares for you and me, even when we don’t understand our circumstances. Look around and learn of Him. ALYSON KIEDA
