본문의 중심내용

원수들이 시인의 마지막 희망인 하나님의 이름마저 없애려고 합니다. 시인은 ‘어찌하여’를 반복하며 마치 침묵하시는 것처럼 느껴지는 하나님께 기도합니다.

시인의 간청 

1하나님이여 주께서 어찌하여 우리를 영원히 버리시나이까 어찌하여 주께서 기르시는 양을 향하여 진노의 연기를 뿜으시나이까 2옛적부터 얻으시고 속량하사 주의 기업의 지파로 삼으신 주의 회중을 기억하시며 주께서 계시던 시온 산도 생각하소서 3영구히 파멸된 곳을 향하여 주의 발을 옮겨 놓으소서

 원수들의 만행 

원수가 성소에서 모든 악을 행하였나이다  4주의 대적이 주의 회중 가운데에서 떠들며 자기들의 깃발을 세워 표적으로 삼았으니 5그들은 마치 도끼를 들어 삼림을 베는 사람 같으니이다 6이제 그들이 도끼와 철퇴로 성소의 모든 조각품을 쳐서 부수고 7주의 성소를 불사르며 주의 이름이 계신 곳을 더럽혀 땅에 엎었나이다 8그들이 마음속으로 이르기를 우리가 그들을 진멸하자 하고 이 땅에 있는 하나님의 모든 회당을 불살랐나이다

 하나님의 침묵 

 9우리의 표적은 보이지 아니하며 선지자도 더 이상 없으며 이런 일이 얼마나 오랠는지 우리 중에 아는 자도 없나이다 10하나님이여 대적이 언제까지 비방하겠으며 원수가 주의 이름을 영원히 능욕하리이까 11주께서 어찌하여 주의 손 곧 주의 오른손을 거두시나이까 주의 품에서 손을 빼내시어 그들을 멸하소서

A Maskil of Asaph.1 O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?2 Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage! Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.3 Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins; the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!4 Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place;  they set up their own signs for signs.5 They were like those who swing axes in a forest of trees.6 And all its carved wood they broke down with hatchets and hammers.7 They set your sanctuary on fire; they profaned the dwelling place of your name, bringing it down to the ground.8 They said to themselves, “We will utterly subdue them”; they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.9 We do not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet, and there is none among us who knows how long.10 How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?11 Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them!
