[ 히브리서 2:10 - 3:6 ] (찬송139장)

고난을 통과한 구원의 창시자 

10그러므로 만물이 그를 위하고 또한 그로 말미암은 이가 많은 아들들을 이끌어 영광에 들어가게 하시는 일에 그들의 구원의 창시자를 고난을 통하여 온전하게 하심이 합당하도다

 우리의 형제가 되신 예수님 

 11거룩하게 하시는 이와 거룩하게 함을 입은 자들이 다 한 근원에서 난지라 그러므로 형제라 부르시기를 부끄러워하지 아니하시고 12이르시되 내가 주의 이름을 내 형제들에게 선포하고 내가 주를 교회 중에서 찬송하리라 하셨으며 13또 다시 내가 그를 의지하리라 하시고 또 다시 볼지어다 나와 및 하나님께서 내게 주신 자녀라 하셨으니

 우리의 해방자 예수님 

 14자녀들은 혈과 육에 속하였으매 그도 또한 같은 모양으로 혈과 육을 함께 지니심은 죽음을 통하여 죽음의 세력을 잡은 자 곧 마귀를 멸하시며 15또 죽기를 무서워하므로 한평생 매여 종 노릇 하는 모든 자들을 놓아 주려 하심이니 16이는 확실히 천사들을 붙들어 주려 하심이 아니요 오직 아브라함의 자손을 붙들어 주려 하심이라

 17그러므로 그가 범사에 형제들과 같이 되심이 마땅하도다 이는 하나님의 일에 자비하고 신실한 대제사장이 되어 백성의 죄를 속량하려 하심이라 18그가 시험을 받아 고난을 당하셨은즉 시험 받는 자들을 능히 도우실 수 있느니라

 3:1그러므로 함께 하늘의 부르심을 받은 거룩한 형제들아 우리가 믿는 도리의 사도이시며 대제사장이신 예수를 깊이 생각하라 2그는 자기를 세우신 이에게 신실하시기를 모세가 하나님의 온 집에서 한 것과 같이 하셨으니 3그는 모세보다 더욱 영광을 받을 만한 것이 마치 집 지은 자가 그 집보다 더욱 존귀함 같으니라 4집마다 지은 이가 있으니 만물을 지으신 이는 하나님이시라 5또한 모세는 장래에 말할 것을 증언하기 위하여 하나님의 온 집에서 종으로서 신실하였고 6그리스도는 하나님의 집을 맡은 아들로서 그와 같이 하셨으니 우리가 소망의 확신과 자랑을 끝까지 굳게 잡고 있으면 우리는 그의 집이라

10For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,12 saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.3 :1Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house.3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)5 Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later,6 but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Today’s passage explains why Jesus, who was worshipped by the angels, came in the weak form of a human being and died. It was because he had to become a human being to bear the judgement of sin in order to save human beings, who had become slaves to sin. In order to help those who were suffering, Jesus needed to become a human being himself and bear the weight of that suffering (2:10-18). Moses, whom the Jews revered, was merely a servant who maintained God’s house, but Jesus is the Son of God, the master of the house. In order to become a member of God’s family in God’s house, we need to have faith not in Moses but in Jesus (3:1-6). 

Who is Jesus?

2:18 Jesus understands our temptations and sufferings and helps us. Jesus tasted the temptations that we experience (Matt. 4:1-11) and endured extreme suffering in our stead. Do you believe that Jesus couldn’t possibly understand your pain and hardship? Jesus comforts us with hands that are scarred from being nailed to the cross. 

What lesson is God teaching me?

3:1 The strength to finish the race of faith comes from contemplating deeply on Jesus. This is because Jesus opened that path, walked on it before us, and guides us. Do you feel like you are falling away from the path of faith? Contemplate deeply on the Jesus that is being introduced to us in Hebrews. Then you will surely find renewed hope, conviction and a sense of pride as we you walk down this path.

Prayer

Lord, help me to complete this journey of faith by contemplating deeply on Jesus, the founder of salvation and high priest.
