모든 이들을 사랑하라 

12형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서 너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고 13그들의 역사로 말미암아 사랑 안에서 가장 귀히 여기며 너희끼리 화목하라 14또 형제들아 너희를 권면하노니 게으른 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람에게 오래 참으라 15삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르라

 17쉬지 말고 기도하라 18범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라

[ 1 Thessalonians 5:12 - 5:28 ]

12We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,13 and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.16 Rejoice always,17 pray without ceasing,18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.19 Do not quench the Spirit.20 Do not despise prophecies,21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.22 Abstain from every form of evil.23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.25 Brothers, pray for us.26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.27 I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

In the conclusion of his letter, Paul called the Thessalonian believers his ‘brothers and sisters’ (vv. 12, 14, 25-27) and laid out the virtues that the church needed to keep as a community of God’s family. The members of the church needed to respect the leaders who taught them and laboured among them and they needed to be patient with, admonish, encourage, support and do good to one another (vv. 12-15). They also needed to discern all the things of this world according to the teachings of the Word and the call of the Holy Spirit which guided their conscience (vv. 16-22). Paul prayed for the holiness of the Thessalonian church and requested the believers to pray for him (vv. 23-28).

Who is God?

Vv. 16-18 God is the reason for our joy, prayers and thanksgiving. We can always rejoice because God is the source of our joy, pray without ceasing because God always hears our prayers, and give thanks for all events because God uses all things for good. Rather than commands we need to keep, these are blessings that we should enjoy.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 14-15 Members of the church must be patient with one another. Among the community, there are immature people, weak people, and even wicked people. Even so, we mustn’t exclude such people from our hearts but try to help them. This is because the church is God’s family and they are our brothers and sisters. 

Prayer

God, cultivate my church community so that we may treat one another as brothers and sisters and become a beautiful family in Christ.
