레위 자손 중에 회막에서 봉사할 사람들이 종족과 가문별로 계수되고 그 총계가 보고됩니다. 이로써 1장부터 시작된 이스라엘의 인구조사가 마무리됩니다.

34모세와 아론과 회중의 지도자들이 고핫 자손들을 그 종족과 조상의 가문에 따라 계수하니 35삼십 세부터 오십 세까지 회막에서 복무하고 봉사할 모든 자 36곧 그 종족대로 계수된 자가 이천칠백오십 명이니 37이는 모세와 아론이 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 회막에서 종사하는 고핫인의 모든 종족 중 계수된 자이니라

 38게르손 자손 중 그 종족과 조상의 가문을 따라 계수된 자는 39삼십 세부터 오십 세까지 회막 봉사에 참여하여 일할 만한 모든 자라 40그 종족과 조상의 가문을 따라 계수된 자는 이천육백삼십 명이니 41이는 모세와 아론이 여호와의 명령대로 회막에서 종사하는 게르손 자손의 모든 종족 중 계수된 자니라

 42므라리 자손의 종족 중 그 종족과 조상의 가문을 따라 계수된 자는 43삼십 세부터 오십 세까지 회막에서 복무하고 봉사할 모든 자라 44그 종족을 따라 계수된 자는 삼천이백 명이니 45이는 모세와 아론이 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 므라리 자손들의 종족 중 계수된 자니라

 46모세와 아론과 이스라엘 지휘관들이 레위인을 그 종족과 조상의 가문에 따라 다 계수하니 47삼십 세부터 오십 세까지 회막 봉사와 메는 일에 참여하여 일할 만한 모든 자 48곧 그 계수된 자는 팔천오백팔십 명이라 49그들이 할 일과 짐을 메는 일을 따라 모세에게 계수되었으되 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 그들이 계수되었더라

34And Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of the congregation listed the sons of the Kohathites, by their clans and their fathers’ houses,35 from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty, for service in the tent of meeting;36 and those listed by clans were2,750.37 This was the list of the clans of the Kohathites, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the LORD by Moses.38 Those listed of the sons of Gershon, by their clans and their fathers’ houses,39 from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty for service in the tent of meeting—40those listed by their clans and their fathers’ houses were2,630.41 This was the list of the clans of the sons of Gershon, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the LORD.42 Those listed of the clans of the sons of Merari, by their clans and their fathers’ houses,43 from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty, for service in the tent of meeting—44those listed by clans were3,200.45 This was the list of the clans of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the LORD by Moses.46 All those who were listed of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of Israel listed, by their clans and their fathers’ houses,47 from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come to do the service of ministry and the service of bearing burdens in the tent of meeting,48 those listed were8,580.49 According to the commandment of the LORD through Moses they were listed, each one with his task of serving or carrying. Thus they were listed by him, as the LORD commanded Moses. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Moses and Aaron listed the men of the house of Levites between the ages of thirty and fifty by clans. The resulting total was 8,580 men (2,750 men of Kohath, 3,200 men of Gershon and 8,580 men of Merari.) Men had to be over twenty to be enlisted in the army, but they had to be over thirty to serve in the tent of meeting. This shows us that serving in the tent of meeting required more than physical strength. Moses then assigned each of the 8,580 men to a specific duty relating to serving or carrying as God had commanded (vv. 34-49). 

Who is God?

Vv. 34-49 God is the God of order (cosmos). He appointed the right people to the right places, divided the work among them and established an order so that they could accomplish God’s works together. What are the duties that you must carry out both in smaller circles and in the wider world? Do you respect order and are you a willing collaborator? 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 35,39,43,47 There is a right timing even when it comes to servitude. There are times for preparing, times for working and times for rest. It is irresponsible to move when it is the time to stop, and it is ignoble to stay idle when it is the time to move. But it is a beautiful thing when a person moves forward at the right time after they have faithfully fulfilled their duties.
