죽음은 가장 근원적인 부정의 형태이지만, 죽은 사람과의 접촉은 불가피합니다. 그래서 하나님은 죽은 사람으로 인해 생긴 부정을 정결하게 하는 방법을 마련하십니다.

[ 민수기 19:1 - 19:10 ] (찬송266장)

1여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되 2여호와께서 명령하시는 법의 율례를 이제 이르노니 이스라엘 자손에게 일러서 온전하여 흠이 없고 아직 멍에 메지 아니한 붉은 암송아지를 네게로 끌어오게 하고 3너는 그것을 제사장 엘르아살에게 줄 것이요 그는 그것을 진영 밖으로 끌어내어서 자기 목전에서 잡게 할 것이며 4제사장 엘르아살은 손가락에 그 피를 찍고 그 피를 회막 앞을 향하여 일곱 번 뿌리고 5그 암소를 자기 목전에서 불사르게 하되 그 가죽과 고기와 피와 똥을 불사르게 하고 6동시에 제사장은 백향목과 우슬초와 홍색 실을 가져다가 암송아지를 사르는 불 가운데에 던질 것이며 7제사장은 자기의 옷을 빨고 물로 몸을 씻은 후에 진영에 들어갈 것이라 그는 저녁까지 부정하리라 8송아지를 불사른 자도 자기의 옷을 물로 빨고 물로 그 몸을 씻을 것이라 그도 저녁까지 부정하리라

 9이에 정결한 자가 암송아지의 재를 거두어 진영 밖 정한 곳에 둘지니 이것은 이스라엘 자손 회중을 위하여 간직하였다가 부정을 씻는 물을 위해 간직할지니 그것은 속죄제니라 10암송아지의 재를 거둔 자도 자기의 옷을 빨 것이며 저녁까지 부정하리라 이는 이스라엘 자손과 그중에 거류하는 외인에게 영원한 율례니라

1Now the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,2 “This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded: Tell the people of Israel to bring you a red heifer without defect, in which there is no blemish, and on which a yoke has never come.3 And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest, and it shall be taken outside the camp and slaughtered before him.4 And Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of its blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times.5 And the heifer shall be burned in his sight. Its skin, its flesh, and its blood, with its dung, shall be burned.6 And the priest shall take cedarwood and hyssop and scarlet yarn, and throw them into the fire burning the heifer.7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. But the priest shall be unclean until evening.8 The one who burns the heifer shall wash his clothes in water and bathe his body in water and shall be unclean until evening.9 And a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and deposit them outside the camp in a clean place. And they shall be kept for the water for impurity for the congregation of the people of Israel; it is a sin offering.10 And the one who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening. And this shall be a perpetual statute for the people of Israel, and for the stranger who sojourns among them.
