2 여호사밧의 아들 여호람의 아우들 아사랴와 여히엘과 스가랴와 아사랴와 미가엘과 스바댜는 다 유다 왕 여호사밧의 아들들이라

3 그의 아버지가 그들에게는 은금과 보물과 유다 견고한 성읍들을 선물로 후히 주었고 여호람은 장자이므로 왕위를 주었더니

4 여호람이 그의 아버지의 왕국을 다스리게 되어 세력을 얻은 후에 그의 모든 아우들과 이스라엘 방백들 중 몇 사람을 칼로 죽였더라

5 여호람이 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 삼십이 세라 예루살렘에서 팔 년 동안 다스리니라

6 그가 이스라엘 왕들의 길로 행하여 아합의 집과 같이 하였으니 이는 아합의 딸이 그의 아내가 되었음이라 그가 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였으나

7 여호와께서 다윗의 집을 멸하기를 즐겨하지 아니하셨음은 이전에 다윗과 더불어 언약을 세우시고 또 다윗과 그의 자손에게 항상 등불을 주겠다고 말씀하셨음이더라

8 여호람 때에 에돔이 배반하여 유다의 지배하에서 벗어나 자기 위에 왕을 세우므로

9 여호람이 지휘관들과 모든 병거를 거느리고 출정하였더니 밤에 일어나서 자기를 에워싼 에돔 사람과 그 병거의 지휘관들을 쳤더라

10 이와 같이 에돔이 배반하여 유다의 지배하에서 벗어났더니 오늘까지 그러하였으며 그 때에 립나도 배반하여 여호람의 지배 하에서 벗어났으니 이는 그가 그의 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 버렸음이더라

11 여호람이 또 유다 여러 산에 산당을 세워 예루살렘 주민으로 음행하게 하고 또 유다를 미혹하게 하였으므로

12 선지자 엘리야가 여호람에게 글을 보내어 이르되 왕의 조상 다윗의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 네가 네 아비 여호사밧의 길과 유다 왕 아사의 길로 행하지 아니하고

13 오직 이스라엘 왕들의 길로 행하여 유다와 예루살렘 주민들이 음행하게 하기를 아합의 집이 음행하듯 하며 또 네 아비 집에서 너보다 착한 아우들을 죽였으니

14 여호와가 네 백성과 네 자녀들과 네 아내들과 네 모든 재물을 큰 재앙으로 치시리라

15 또 너는 창자에 중병이 들고 그 병이 날로 중하여 창자가 빠져나오리라 하셨다 하였더라

16 여호와께서 블레셋 사람들과 구스에서 가까운 아라비아 사람들의 마음을 격동시키사 여호람을 치게 하셨으므로

17 그들이 올라와서 유다를 침략하여 왕궁의 모든 재물과 그의 아들들과 아내들을 탈취하였으므로 막내 아들 여호아하스 외에는 한 아들도 남지 아니하였더라

18 이 모든 일 후에 여호와께서 여호람을 치사 능히 고치지 못할 병이 그 창자에 들게 하셨으므로

19 여러 날 후 이 년 만에 그의 창자가 그 병으로 말미암아 빠져나오매 그가 그 심한 병으로 죽으니 백성이 그들의 조상들에게 분향하던 것 같이 그에게 분향하지 아니하였으며

20 여호람이 삼십이 세에 즉위하고 예루살렘에서 팔 년 동안 다스리다가 아끼는 자 없이 세상을 떠났으며 무리가 그를 다윗 성에 장사하였으나 열왕의 묘실에는 두지 아니하였더라

요약: 아합의 딸과 결혼한 여호람은 다윗 가문의 정체성을 버리고 아합 가문에 속한 사람처럼 하나님 앞에서 악을 저지릅니다. 그는 쓸쓸하고 비참하게 최후를 맞습니다.

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

7, 17절   약속을 반드시 지키십니다. 여호람은 재위 내내 악을 떠난 적이 없습니다. 그의 악이 얼마나 심각한지, 다윗과 맺은 언약, “네 왕위가 영원히 견고하리라”(삼하 7:16) 하신 약속만 아니었다면 하나님이 왕가를 멸절하셨을 것입니다. 하지만 하나님은 다윗과 맺은 언약을 지키기 위해, 여호람을 벌하시면서도 막내아들 여호아하스를 살려 왕위를 잇게 하셨습니다. 신실하신 하나님은 그리스도 안에서 모든 언약을 성취하셨습니다(고후 1:20). 우리가 언약의 복을 누리는 것은 우리의 충성 때문이 아니라 하나님의 신실하심 덕분입니다.8-15절   하나님을 찾는 자는 반드시 만나 주시지만(잠 8:17), 하나님을 배반하는 자는 하나님도 버리십니다(민 14:43). 여호수아 때에 정복한 립나(수 12:15)와 다윗 시대부터 속국이던 에돔(삼하 8:14)이 여호람을 배반하고 독립했습니다. 여호람이 하나님을 배반하여 다윗과 아사와 여호사밧처럼 살지 않고 아합처럼 살았기 때문입니다. 이에 더해 엘리야가 여호람에게 큰 재앙과 비참한 죽음까지 예언하며 하나님의 진노를 선언합니다. 하나님을 떠남이 악의 시작이자 고통의 출발입니다(렘 2:19).

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

2-6절   여호람은 왕위를 이어받고 세력을 키운 후에 모든 동생과 신실한 신하 몇 사람을 죽였습니다. 자기 권력에 잠재적 위협이라 판단한 사람들을 숙청한 것으로, 아합의 악한 길을 따라가는 데 걸림돌이 될 수 있는 사람들을 제거한 것입니다. 여호람이 이렇게 된 것은 아합의 딸 아달랴와 혼인하여 그 삶의 방식을 따랐기 때문입니다. 믿음은 그리스도와 연합한 삶의 방식입니다. 빛과 어둠, 의와 불법이 함께할 수 없듯이(고후 6:14) 그리스도인은 우상숭배자와 같은 길을 갈 수 없습니다. 불신의 세상 속에 살지만 세상의 불의에 물들지 않도록 주의해야 합니다.16-20절   여호람은 동생들까지 죽이며 왕권을 강화했지만, 결국 재물과 아내를 빼앗기고 아들들을 잃었으며, 고치지 못할 병을 얻어 애도하는 이 하나 없이 죽었습니다. 하나님을 떠나 도모하는 모든 수고가 헛됩니다(시 127:1). 우리가 원하는 평화와 안녕은 하나님 안에 있습니다.

Jehoram Follows the Ways of Ahab 아합의 길을 따른 여호람

2He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.3 Their father gave them great gifts of silver, gold, and valuable possessions, together with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.4 When Jehoram had ascended the throne of his father and was established, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife. And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.7 Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.8 In his days Edom revolted from the rule of Judah and set up a king of their own.9 Then Jehoram passed over with his commanders and all his chariots, and he rose by night and struck the Edomites who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders.10 So Edom revolted from the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah also revolted from his rule, because he had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.11 Moreover, he made high places in the hill country of Judah and led the inhabitants of Jerusalem into whoredom and made Judah go astray.12 And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or in the ways of Asa king of Judah,13 but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and have enticed Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into whoredom, as the house of Ahab led Israel into whoredom, and also you have killed your brothers, of your father's house, who were better than you,14 behold, the LORD will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions,15 and you yourself will have a severe sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day.’”16 And the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the anger of the Philistines and of the Arabians who are near the Ethiopians.17 And they came up against Judah and invaded it and carried away all the possessions they found that belonged to the king's house, and also his sons and his wives, so that no son was left to him except Jehoahaz, his youngest son.18 And after all this the LORD struck him in his bowels with an incurable disease.19 In the course of time, at the end of two years, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great agony. His people made no fire in his honor, like the fires made for his fathers.20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed with no one's regret. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Jehoram, who married Ahab's daughter, committed evil before God like Ahab and his family had done. He killed all his brothers and followed the evil ways of the kings of Israel (vv. 2-10). God declaired all of Jehoram's sins and pronounced a curse upon him. As foretold, during Jehoram’s reign, Judah was invaded by the Philistines and Arabians. They captured all his sons except the youngest, took his wives, and royal possessions, and he Jehoram himself died from a painful illness that caused his bowels to come out (vv. 12-20).

아합의 딸과 결혼한 여호람은 아합 가문에 속한 사람처럼 하나님 앞에서 악을 저질렀습니다. 자신의 모든 형제를 죽이고 이스라엘 왕들의 악한 길로 행합니다(2-10절). 하나님은 여호람의 모든 죄를 지적하시며, 재앙을 선고하셨습니다. 하나님의 예고대로, 여호람은 블레셋과 아라비아 사람들의 침략을 받아 막내아들을 제외한 모든 아들과 아내들과 왕실 재산까지 몽땅 빼앗겼고, 자신도 병에 걸려 창자가 빠진 채로 죽었습니다(12-20절).

Who is God?

Vv. 7, 17 God faithfully keeps his promises. Though he punished Jehoram, he spared Ahaziah to fulfil the covenant made with David. Our faithful God sent Christ and fulfilled all his promises in him (2 Cor. 1:20). Today, we enjoy the blessings of God’s covenant because of his unwavering faithfulness.

약속을 꼭 지키십니다. 하나님은 여호람을 벌하시면서도, 다윗과 맺은 언약을 지키기 위해 아하시야를 살려 주셨습니다. 신실하신 하나님은 그리스도를 보내셨고, 그리스도 안에서 모든 언약을 성취하셨습니다(고후 1:20). 우리가 언약의 복을 누리는 것은 하나님의 신실하심 덕분입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

V. 6 We must guard ourselves against being corrupted by the world (James 1:17). As Jesus warned, ‘Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod’ (Mark 8:15), we should continually examine our actions in light of the Word, ensuring that only the truth of Christ shapes and fills our lives.

세속에 물들지 않도록 자신을 지켜야 합니다(약 1:17). ‘바리새파의 누룩과 헤롯의 누룩을 조심하라’(막 8:15)는 주님의 경고처럼 우리에게 사사로워 보이는 어떤 것일지라도 그것이 우리 삶을 삼키지 못하도록 늘 말씀으로 일상의 행위를 점검해야 합니다.
