왈도 찾기[ 사도행전 8:26 - 8:40 ] - 찬송가 497장

그 내시가 빌립에게 말하되 청컨대 내가 묻노니 선지자가 이 말한 것이 누구를 가리킴이냐 자기를 가리킴이냐 타인을 가리킴이냐 (사도행전 8:34)
 
왈도는 《숨은 왈도 찾기》라는, 이제는 고전이 된 인기 있는 어린이책의 주인공입니다. 왈도는 페이지마다 복잡한 그림 속에 숨어 아이들과 숨바꼭질을 하자고 합니다. 세계의 부모들은 어린 자녀들이 왈도를 찾아 기뻐하는 모습을 보는 순간을 무척 좋아합니다. 부모들도 어린 자녀들을 도와 함께 왈도를 찾는 것을 즐기기도 합니다.
초대교회의 집사였던 스데반이 그리스도를 전하다 돌에 맞아 순교한 후(행 7장 참조), 곧이어 그리스도인들에 대한 박해가 확산되자 많은 사람들이 예루살렘을 떠나게 되었습니다. 또 다른 집사 빌립은 피난하는 그리스도인들과 함께 사마리아로 가게 되었는데, 그곳에서 그리스도를 전파하여 많은 사람들이 믿게 되었습니다(행 8:6). 그런데 그곳에 머무는 동안 성령님이 특별한 사명을 위해 빌립을 ‘광야’로 보내셨습니다. 그가 사마리아에서 맺고 있는 전도의 열매들을 볼 때, 이 명령은 분명 이해가 되지 않았을 것입니다. 그러나 그 광야에서 에디오피아의 국고를 맡은 관리를 만나 이사야서에 나타난 예수님을 만날 수 있도록 도와주었을 때 빌립의 기쁨을 상상해보십시오(26-40절).
다른 사람들이 성경을 통해 “예수님을 만나” 주님을 더욱 깊이 알 수 있도록 도울 수 있는 기회가 우리에게도 자주 있습니다. 새롭게 찾은 것을 기뻐하는 자녀들의 눈을 바라보는 부모나, 에디오피아인을 도와 예수님을 찾게 해준 빌립처럼, 우리에게도 주변의 사람들이 예수님을 찾는 순간을 목격할 때의 기쁨은 이루 말할 수 없을 것입니다. 매일 매일 살면서 우리가 잘 아는 사람이든 처음 본 사람이든 성령의 인도하심을 따라 그리스도를 전파할 수 있도록 우리 모두 잘 준비될 수 있기를 바랍니다.

 
그리스도인이 할 수 있는 가장 큰 일은 친구를 만나 그를 예수 그리스도께로 인도하는 것이다.

26. 주의 사자가 빌립에게 말하여 이르되 일어나서 남쪽으로 향하여 예루살렘에서 가사로 내려가는 길까지 가라 하니 그 길은 광야라

27. 일어나 가서 보니 에디오피아 사람 곧 에디오피아 여왕 간다게의 모든 국고를 맡은 관리인 내시가 예배하러 예루살렘에 왔다가

28. 돌아가는데 수레를 타고 선지자 이사야의 글을 읽더라

29. 성령이 빌립더러 이르시되 이 수레로 가까이 나아가라 하시거늘

30. 빌립이 달려가서 선지자 이사야의 글 읽는 것을 듣고 말하되 읽는 것을 깨닫느냐

31. 대답하되 지도해 주는 사람이 없으니 어찌 깨달을 수 있느냐 하고 빌립을 청하여 수레에 올라 같이 앉으라 하니라

32. 읽는 성경 구절은 이것이니 일렀으되 그가 도살자에게로 가는 양과 같이 끌려갔고 털 깎는 자 앞에 있는 어린 양이 조용함과 같이 그의 입을 열지 아니하였도다

33. 그가 굴욕을 당했을 때 공정한 재판도 받지 못하였으니 누가 그의 세대를 말하리요 그의 생명이 땅에서 빼앗김이로다 하였거늘

34. 그 내시가 빌립에게 말하되 청컨대 내가 묻노니 선지자가 이 말한 것이 누구를 가리킴이냐 자기를 가리킴이냐 타인을 가리킴이냐

35. 빌립이 입을 열어 이 글에서 시작하여 예수를 가르쳐 복음을 전하니

36. 길 가다가 물 있는 곳에 이르러 그 내시가 말하되 보라 물이 있으니 내가 침례를 받음에 무슨 거리낌이 있느냐

37. (없음)

38. 이에 명하여 수레를 멈추고 빌립과 내시가 둘 다 물에 내려가 빌립이 침례를 베풀고

39. 둘이 물에서 올라올새 주의 영이 빌립을 이끌어간지라 내시는 기쁘게 길을 가므로 그를 다시 보지 못하니라

40. 빌립은 아소도에 나타나 여러 성을 지나 다니며 복음을 전하고 가이사랴에 이르니라

Finding Waldo [ Acts 8:26 - 8:40 ] - hymn497

The [Ethiopian] asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” (Acts 8:34)

Waldo is the cartoonish star of “Where’s Waldo,” a now-classic best-selling children’s book series. Waldo hides himself in the crowded painted scenes on each page, inviting children to find where he’s hiding. Parents around the world love the moments of sweet discovery when their children’s faces signal they’ve found Waldo. They also enjoy the occasions when they’re invited to help find him.
Shortly after Stephen, a deacon in the early church, was stoned to death for proclaiming Christ(see Acts 7), widespread persecution broke out against Christians, causing many to flee Jerusalem. Another deacon, Philip, followed these fleeing Christians into Samaria, where he proclaimed Christ and it was well received(8:6). While there, the Holy Spirit sent Philip on a special mission to “the desert road.” It must have seemed a strange request given the fruit his preaching was producing in Samaria itself. Imagine Philip’s joy, then, when he met and helped the Ethiopian court official find Jesus in the pages of Isaiah(vv. 26–40).
We, too, are often given the chance to help others “find Jesus” throughout the Scriptures so they may know Him more fully. Like a parent witnessing the joy of discovery in their child’s eyes and like Philip helping the Ethiopian find Jesus, it can be exhilarating for us to witness the moment of discovery in those around us. As we go through our days, may we be prepared to share Christ as the Spirit leads us, whether they are people we know well or those we meet even just once. Randy Kilgore

26. Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road -- the desert road -- that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."

27. So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,

28. and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.

29. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."

30. Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.

31. "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32. The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

33. In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."

34. The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"

35. Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

36. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"

38. And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

39. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

40. Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
