본문의 중심내용

하나님의 계획(1장)이 우리 안에서 어떻게 이루어졌는지 설명합니다. 죄로 죽었던 우리를 살리신 구원 이야기입니다. 선물로 받은 구원이고, 목적이 있는 구원이라고 말합니다.

죽었던 우리 

1그는 허물과 죄로 죽었던 너희를 살리셨도다 2그 때에 너희는 그 가운데서 행하여 이 세상 풍조를 따르고 공중의 권세 잡은 자를 따랐으니 곧 지금 불순종의 아들들 가운데서 역사하는 영이라 3전에는 우리도 다 그 가운데서 우리 육체의 욕심을 따라 지내며 육체와 마음의 원하는 것을 하여 다른 이들과 같이 본질상 진노의 자녀이었더니

 살리신 은혜 

 4긍휼이 풍성하신 하나님이 우리를 사랑하신 그 큰 사랑을 인하여 5허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희는 은혜로 구원을 받은 것이라) 6또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 하늘에 앉히시니 7이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리에게 자비하심으로써 그 은혜의 지극히 풍성함을 오는 여러 세대에 나타내려 하심이라

 8너희는 그 은혜에 의하여 믿음으로 말미암아 구원을 받았으니 이것은 너희에게서 난 것이 아니요 하나님의 선물이라 9행위에서 난 것이 아니니 이는 누구든지 자랑하지 못하게 함이라 10우리는 그가 만드신 바라 그리스도 예수 안에서 선한 일을 위하여 지으심을 받은 자니 이 일은 하나님이 전에 예비하사 우리로 그 가운데서 행하게 하려 하심이니라

1And you were dead in the trespasses and sins2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—3among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

People live following the passions of their flesh according to worldly customs. This isn’t autonomy but the result of being enslaved by wicked spirits, the prince of the power of the air. Paul asserts that this kind of existence is equal to death. God did not leave human beings in the hands of death but resurrected us along with Christ. Salvation is a gift that human beings have received as a result of God’s love and the cost of Christ’s sacrifice. Therefore, we must live fulfilling works that please God, who has given us new life (vv. 1-10).  

Who is Jesus?

Vv. 1-10 Jesus sacrificed himself to save human beings who were dead in trespasses and sins. The cross of Christ is the greatest demonstration of God’s love and power. We too have become new people who have received new life as a result of that love. Let’s live new, unblemished lives today as God’s workmanship. 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 1-3 Those who have departed from God may be living in the flesh but are spiritually dead. Wicked spirits make us believe that it is right and natural for us to live according to our passions. This is a strategy used by Satan to make us lose our precious humanity which has been created in God’s image. What passions does your flesh lust after? How do you deal with those temptations? 

Prayer

Lord, help me to remember the purpose of salvation in addition to having conviction in salvation.
