기도에 대한 응답으로 하나님은 가브리엘을 보내어 다니엘을 격려하시고, 앞에서 본 환상(8장)의 의미를 알게 하십니다. 

[ 다니엘 9:20 - 9:27 ] (찬송438장)

기도 응답의 때 

20내가 이같이 말하여 기도하며 내 죄와 내 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 자복하고 내 하나님의 거룩한 산을 위하여 내 하나님 여호와 앞에 간구할 때 21곧 내가 기도할 때에 이전에 환상 중에 본 그 사람 가브리엘이 빨리 날아서 저녁 제사를 드릴 때 즈음에 내게 이르더니

 22내게 가르치며 내게 말하여 이르되 다니엘아 내가 이제 네게 지혜와 총명을 주려고 왔느니라 23곧 네가 기도를 시작할 즈음에 명령이 내렸으므로 이제 네게 알리러 왔느니라 너는 크게 은총을 입은 자라 그런즉 너는 이 일을 생각하고 그 환상을 깨달을지니라

 24네 백성과 네 거룩한 성을 위하여 일흔 이레를 기한으로 정하였나니 허물이 그치며 죄가 끝나며 죄악이 용서되며 영원한 의가 드러나며 환상과 예언이 응하며 또 지극히 거룩한 이가 기름 부음을 받으리라 25그러므로 너는 깨달아 알지니라 예루살렘을 중건하라는 영이 날 때부터 기름 부음을 받은 자 곧 왕이 일어나기까지 일곱 이레와 예순두 이레가 지날 것이요 그 곤란한 동안에 성이 중건되어 광장과 거리가 세워질 것이며 26예순두 이레 후에 기름 부음을 받은 자가 끊어져 없어질 것이며 장차 한 왕의 백성이 와서 그 성읍과 성소를 무너뜨리려니와 그의 마지막은 홍수에 휩쓸림 같을 것이며 또 끝까지 전쟁이 있으리니 황폐할 것이 작정되었느니라 27그가 장차 많은 사람들과 더불어 한 이레 동안의 언약을 굳게 맺고 그가 그 이레의 절반에 제사와 예물을 금지할 것이며 또 포악하여 가증한 것이 날개를 의지하여 설 것이며 또 이미 정한 종말까지 진노가 황폐하게 하는 자에게 쏟아지리라 하였느니라 하니라

24절) 한 이레를 7일 또는 7년으로 보기도 하는데, 대체로 7년으로 해석한다. 따라서 일흔 이레는 490년을 의미하는데, 490년이라는 문자적 기간이 아니라 ‘하나님이 설정하신 온전한 기간’을 의미하는 상징적 숫자로 보인다.

20While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the LORD my God for the holy hill of my God,21 while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.22 He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding.23 At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision.24 “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.25 Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed.27 And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.” 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Daniel prayed for the Israelites to be freed from Babylon and the destroyed temple of Jerusalem to be restored, but God had a plan to free the Israelites from sin forever and to establish a temple that could never be destroyed. God had planned for this to be accomplished in ‘seventy weeks’, which was a cryptic reference to an unknowable period of time. However, one thing that was for certain was that at the end of this time, there would be no more sin, eternal righteousness would be revealed and God’s plan would be fulfilled (vv. 20-27).  

Who is God?

V. 24 David learned that when the time was right, God would reveal his eternal righteousness among his people through the anointed one. This was a prophecy about Jesus Christ’s work of salvation, which freed us from the dominion of sin and made us righteous people. Let’s meditate today on the plans of God, who allowed us to die to sin and live righteously. 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 20-21 When Daniel began to pray, Gabriel came swiftly and brought God’s message to him. Let’s devote more of our time and effort to prayer, remembering that God hears us as soon as we begin to pray and will surely respond in some way.

Lord, help me to pray during times of hardship while waiting for your will to be accomplished at the appointed times.
