[ 데살로니가전서 4:13 - 5:11 ] (찬송176장)

잠든 자들에 대한 답변 

13형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원하지 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라 14우리가 예수께서 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나심을 믿을진대 이와 같이 예수 안에서 자는 자들도 하나님이 그와 함께 데리고 오시리라 15우리가 주의 말씀으로 너희에게 이것을 말하노니 주께서 강림하실 때까지 우리 살아 남아 있는 자도 자는 자보다 결코 앞서지 못하리라 16주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리로 친히 하늘로부터 강림하시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고 17그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라 18그러므로 이러한 말로 서로 위로하라 

 도적같이 임하는 주의 날 

 5:1형제들아 때와 시기에 관하여는 너희에게 쓸 것이 없음은 2주의 날이 밤에 도둑 같이 이를 줄을 너희 자신이 자세히 알기 때문이라 3그들이 평안하다, 안전하다 할 그 때에 임신한 여자에게 해산의 고통이 이름과 같이 멸망이 갑자기 그들에게 이르리니 결코 피하지 못하리라

 성도들과 주의 날 

 4형제들아 너희는 어둠에 있지 아니하매 그 날이 도둑 같이 너희에게 임하지 못하리니 5너희는 다 빛의 아들이요 낮의 아들이라 우리가 밤이나 어둠에 속하지 아니하나니

 마지막을 기다리는 이들의 삶과 권면 

 6그러므로 우리는 다른 이들과 같이 자지 말고 오직 깨어 정신을 차릴지라 7자는 자들은 밤에 자고 취하는 자들은 밤에 취하되 8우리는 낮에 속하였으니 정신을 차리고 믿음과 사랑의 호심경을 붙이고 구원의 소망의 투구를 쓰자 9하나님이 우리를 세우심은 노하심에 이르게 하심이 아니요 오직 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 받게 하심이라 10예수께서 우리를 위하여 죽으사 우리로 하여금 깨어 있든지 자든지 자기와 함께 살게 하려 하셨느니라 11그러므로 피차 권면하고 서로 덕을 세우기를 너희가 하는 것 같이 하라

[ 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 5:11 ]

13But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.5 :11Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

The Thessalonian believers were anxious and sad that dead believers might be excluded from the blessings that would be bestowed on them when the Lord returned. However, Paul taught that on the day of the Lord’s return, the dead would enjoy the gift of eternal life first before the living, and the dead and the living would enter eternal salvation together (4:13-18). Paul also urged the believers not to try to predict the day of the Lord’s return but to always be prepared for the Lord’s return by staying constantly awake like children of the day with hope in the Lord’s salvation (5:1-11).  

Who is God?

4:13-18 On the day of Jesus’ return, God will resurrect all Christians and allow them to walk with Jesus eternally. On that day, Jesus who is not currently visible before our eyes and believers who have departed through death, will unite with the living and rejoice together. God will ensure that believers will never again have to experience the sorrow of parting.

What lesson is God teaching me?

5:1-11 Christians are people who know of the coming world as well as the existing world and prepare accordingly. Therefore, let’s not align ourselves with the darkness of the world but stand against darkness with lives that belong to the light - lives of faith, love and hope. This kind of living is proof that we have been chosen by God to gain salvation and a guarantee that we will live eternally with Jesus. 

Prayer

God, help me to prepare for the day of Jesus’s return with hope.
