11 여호와의 계명의 말씀과 이스라엘에게 주신 율례 학자요 학자 겸 제사장인 에스라에게 아닥사스다 왕이 내린 조서의 초본은 아래와 같으니라

12 모든 왕의 왕 아닥사스다는 하늘의 하나님의 율법에 완전한 학자 겸 제사장 에스라에게

13 조서를 내리노니 우리 나라에 있는 이스라엘 백성과 그들 제사장들과 레위 사람들 중에 예루살렘으로 올라갈 뜻이 있는 자는 누구든지 너와 함께 갈지어다

14 너는 네 손에 있는 네 하나님의 율법을 따라 유다와 예루살렘의 형편을 살피기 위하여 왕과 일곱 자문관의 보냄을 받았으니

15 왕과 자문관들이 예루살렘에 거하시는 이스라엘 하나님께 성심으로 드리는 은금을 가져가고

16 또 네가 바벨론 온 도에서 얻을 모든 은금과 및 백성과 제사장들이 예루살렘에 있는 그들의 하나님의 성전을 위하여 기쁘게 드릴 예물을 가져다가

17 그들의 돈으로 수송아지와 숫양과 어린 양과 그 소제와 그 전제의 물품을 신속히 사서 예루살렘 네 하나님의 성전 제단 위에 드리고

18 그 나머지 은금은 너와 너의 형제가 좋게 여기는 일에 너희 하나님의 뜻을 따라 쓸지며

19 네 하나님의 성전에서 섬기는 일을 위하여 네게 준 그릇은 예루살렘 하나님 앞에 드리고

20 그 외에도 네 하나님의 성전에 쓰일 것이 있어서 네가 드리고자 하거든 무엇이든지 궁중창고에서 내다가 드릴지니라

21 나 곧 아닥사스다 왕이 유브라데 강 건너편 모든 창고지기에게 조서를 내려 이르기를 하늘의 하나님의 율법 학자 겸 제사장 에스라가 무릇 너희에게 구하는 것을 신속히 시행하되

22 은은 백 달란트까지, 밀은 백 고르까지, 포도주는 백 밧까지, 기름도 백 밧까지 하고 소금은 정량 없이 하라

23 무릇 하늘의 하나님의 전을 위하여 하늘의 하나님이 명령하신 것은 삼가 행하라 어찌하여 진노가 왕과 왕자의 나라에 임하게 하랴

24 내가 너희에게 이르노니 제사장들이나 레위 사람들이나 노래하는 자들이나 문지기들이나 느디님 사람들이나 혹 하나님의 성전에서 일하는 자들에게 조공과 관세와 통행세를 받는 것이 옳지 않으니라 하였노라

25 에스라여 너는 네 손에 있는 네 하나님의 지혜를 따라 네 하나님의 율법을 아는 자를 법관과 재판관을 삼아 강 건너편 모든 백성을 재판하게 하고 그 중 알지 못하는 자는 너희가 가르치라

26 무릇 네 하나님의 명령과 왕의 명령을 준행하지 아니하는 자는 속히 그 죄를 정하여 혹 죽이거나 귀양 보내거나 가산을 몰수하거나 옥에 가둘지니라 하였더라

27 우리 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 송축할지로다 그가 왕의 마음에 예루살렘 여호와의 성전을 아름답게 할 뜻을 두시고

28 또 나로 왕과 그의 보좌관들 앞과 왕의 권세 있는 모든 방백의 앞에서 은혜를 얻게 하셨도다 내 하나님 여호와의 손이 내 위에 있으므로 내가 힘을 얻어 이스라엘 중에 우두머리들을 모아 나와 함께 올라오게 하였노라

전체   사람들의 마음을 주장하시고 상황을 주도하시며 우리의 삶과 사역을 이끄십니다. 아닥사스다왕은 에스라에게 조서를 내려 이스라엘 백성 중 자원하는 사람은 누구든지 고국으로 돌아갈 수 있도록 허락하고, 그들이 성전에 바칠 제물을 사는 데 필요한 돈을 넉넉히 준비해 주며, 바벨론에서 헌물로 받은 은금을 성전의 기물로 사용하도록 지시합니다. 또한 성전을 관리하는 데 필요하다면 왕의 국고를 이용할 수 있도록 허락하고, 성전 일을 하는 사람들에게 세금을 면제해 주며, 율법을 유브라데강 서쪽 지역의 법령으로 정합니다. 왕이 이처럼 전폭적으로 지원한 것은 하나님이 그의 마음에 ‘여호와의 성전을 아름답게 할 뜻을 두셨기’ 때문입니다(27절). 하나님은 국가의 정책을 바꾸고 세계정세를 움직여서라도 우리를 인도하시고 뜻하신 바를 이루십니다.

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

27-28a절   왕의 조서를 받은 에스라는 하나님을 찬양하며, 이 일을 이루신 분이 하나님이심을 고백합니다. 자신이 잘해서 통치자들의 환심을 산 것이 아니고 자신이 능숙한 말로 부탁해서 왕이 들어준 것도 아님을 알았습니다. 아닥사스다왕이 성전과 성전의 예배를 위해 지원을 아끼지 않는 일, 왕과 권력자들이 자신에게 호의를 베푸는 일을 보며, 에스라는 배후에서 일하시는 하나님의 손을 보았습니다. 보이지 않으나 강력하게 역사하시는 하나님의 손길을 읽어 내는 것이 신앙의 안목입니다. 나와 함께하시는 하나님, 내 삶 위에 계신 하나님의 손을 인식합니까?28b절   에스라는 왕을 비롯한 고관들이 베푸는 호의에서 하나님의 도우심을 읽고 힘을 얻어 이스라엘의 지도자들과 함께 예루살렘으로 떠났습니다. 안정된 정착생활을 뒤로하고 예루살렘까지 1500킬로미터 가까운 거리를 여행하는 것, 재건 중이라고는 해도 여전히 척박한 예루살렘에 다시 정착하는 것 모두 쉽지 않은 일이지만, 하나님의 도우심을 확인했기에 용기를 낼 수 있었습니다. 우리를 돕는 하나님의 손길을 발견할 때 감사하는 데 그치지 않고, 하나님의 도우심을 믿고 하나님이 부르신 길로 나아가야 합니다.

11This is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a man learned in matters of the commandments of the LORD and his statutes for Israel:12 “Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the scribe of the Law of the God of heaven. Peace. And now13 I make a decree that anyone of the people of Israel or their priests or Levites in my kingdom, who freely offers to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.14 For you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to make inquiries about Judah and Jerusalem according to the Law of your God, which is in your hand,15 and also to carry the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,16 with all the silver and gold that you shall find in the whole province of Babylonia, and with the freewill offerings of the people and the priests, vowed willingly for the house of their God that is in Jerusalem.17 With this money, then, you shall with all diligence buy bulls, rams, and lambs, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings, and you shall offer them on the altar of the house of your God that is in Jerusalem.18 Whatever seems good to you and your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do, according to the will of your God.19 The vessels that have been given you for the service of the house of your God, you shall deliver before the God of Jerusalem.20 And whatever else is required for the house of your God, which it falls to you to provide, you may provide it out of the king's treasury.21 “And I, Artaxerxes the king, make a decree to all the treasurers in the province Beyond the River: Whatever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, requires of you, let it be done with all diligence,22 up to100 talents of silver,100 cors of wheat,100 baths of wine,100 baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.23 Whatever is decreed by the God of heaven, let it be done in full for the house of the God of heaven, lest his wrath be against the realm of the king and his sons.24 We also notify you that it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll on anyone of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the doorkeepers, the temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.25 “And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may judge all the people in the province Beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God. And those who do not know them, you shall teach.26 Whoever will not obey the law of your God and the law of the king, let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of his goods or for imprisonment.”27 Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the LORD that is in Jerusalem,28 and who extended to me his steadfast love before the king and his counselors, and before all the king's mighty officers. I took courage, for the hand of the LORD my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

King Artaxerxes issued an official decree allowing Ezra to lead the people back to Jerusalem. This decree permitted anyone to return to their homeland and allowed freewill offerings made in Babylon to be used to buy all things necessary for sacrifices in the temple. It also granted permission to receive support from the king’s treasury for additional temple expenses if necessary. Artaxerxes declared that whatever Ezra proclaimed as God's law was to be carried out and entrusted him with governing the region west of the Euphrates River in accordance with that law (vv. 11-26). Ezra confessed that it was God who moved the king's heart and responded with praise to the Lord (vv. 27-28).

Who is God?

Vv. 11-26 God governs history and accomplishes his purposes. When necessary, he moves the hearts of foreign rulers to carry out his will. God reigns over every part of the world so we have no reason to fear it. Trust that God, who loves us, is actively at work in the world, and live boldly in that confidence.

뜻하신 바를 이루기 위해 역사를 주관하시는 분입니다. 하나님은 필요할 때 이방 왕조 지도자들의 마음도 감동시키셔서 하나님의 일을 이루어 가십니다. 하나님은 지금도 세상의 모든 영역을 주권으로 다스리시는 분입니다. 우리가 세상을 두려워할 이유는 없습니다. 우리를 사랑하시는 하나님이 세상을 움직이고 계심을 믿고 담대히 살아가십시오.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 27-28 Those who humbly receive God's help can move forward boldly. Ezra recognised the favour of the king and officials came entirely from God, and with that understanding, he decided to return to Jerusalem. God's help is often revealed even in the small, ordinary moments of daily life. Look for God’s guiding hand every day, and take greater steps of faith as you grow.하나님의 도우심을 인식하는 사람은 담대하게 나아갈 수 있습니다. 에스라는 왕과 고관들의 호의 속에서 하나님의 손길을 발견했고, 그 은혜를 힘입어 귀환을 결단합니다. 하나님의 도우심은 일상의 작고 평범한 일에서도 드러납니다. 그 손길을 민감하게 바라보며, 더 큰 믿음의 걸음을 내디뎌 보십시오.
