20Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!”

21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more;

22 and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, will be heard in you no more, and a craftsman of any craft will be found in you no more, and the sound of the mill will be heard in you no more,

23 and the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.

24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.”

1 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

2 for his judgments are true and just; for he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality, and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3 Once more they cried out, “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.”

4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!”

5 And from the throne came a voice saying, “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”

6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.

7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;

8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

20하늘과 성도들과 사도들과 예언자들이여, 즐거워하십시오. 하나님께서는 그대들을 위하여 그 도시를 심판하셨습니다.

21 또 힘센 천사가 큰 맷돌과 같은 돌을 들어 바다에 던지고서 말하였습니다. “그 큰 도시 바빌론이 이렇게 큰 힘으로 던져질 터이니, 다시는 그 흔적도 찾을 수 없을 것이다.

22 거문고를 타는 사람들과 노래를 부르는 사람들과 피리를 부는 사람들과 나팔을 부는 사람들의 노랫소리가 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이요, 어떠한 세공장이도 네 안에서 하나도 보이지 않을 것이요, 맷돌 소리도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다.

23 등불 빛도 다시는 네 안에서 비치지 않을 것이요, 신랑과 신부의 음성도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다. 그것은 네 상인들이 땅의 세도가로 행세하고 모든 민족이 네 마술에 속아 넘어갔기 때문이고,

24 예언자들의 피와 성도들의 피와 땅에서 죽임을 당한 모든 사람의 피가 이 도시에서 발견되었기 때문이다.”

19 :1이 일이 있은 뒤에 내가 들으니, 하늘에 있는 큰 무리가 내는 우렁찬 음성과 같은 소리가 이렇게 울려왔습니다. “할렐루야, 구원과 영광과 권력은 우리 하나님의 것이다.

2 그분의 심판은 참되고 의로우시다. 음행으로 세상을 망친 그 큰 창녀를 심판하셨다. 자기 종들이 흘린 피의 원한을 그 여자에게 갚으셨다.”

3 그들이 다시금 “할렐루야, 그 여자에게서 나는 연기가 영원히 올라가는구나” 하고 외치니,

4 스물네 장로와 네 생물이 보좌에 앉아 계신 하나님께 엎드려 경배하고, “아멘, 할렐루야” 하고 말하였습니다.

5 그 때에 그 보좌로부터 음성이 울려왔습니다. “하나님의 모든 종들아, 하나님을 두려워하는 사람들아, 작은 자들과 큰 자들아, 우리 하나님을 찬양하여라.”

6 또 나는 큰 무리의 음성과 같기도 하고, 큰 물소리와 같기도 하고, 우렁찬 천둥소리와 같기도 한 소리를 들었습니다. “할렐루야, 주 우리 하나님, 전능하신 분께서 왕권을 잡으셨다.

7 기뻐하고 즐거워하며, 하나님께 영광을 돌리자. 어린 양의 혼인날이 이르렀다. 그의 신부는 단장을 끝냈다.

8 신부에게 빛나고 깨끗한 모시옷을 입게 하셨다. 이 모시옷은 성도들의 의로운 행위다.”

9 또 그 천사가 나에게 말하였습니다. “어린 양의 혼인 잔치에 초대를 받은 사람은 복이 있다고 기록하여라.” 그리고 또 말하였습니다. “이 말씀은 하나님의 참된 말씀이다.”

10 그 때에 내가 그에게 경배드리려고, 그의 발 앞에 엎드렸더니, 그가 나에게 말하였습니다. “이러지 말아라, 나도 예수의 증언을 간직하고 있는 네 동료들 가운데 하나요, 너와 같은 종이다. 경배는 하나님께 드려라. 예수의 증언은 곧 예언의 영이다.”

Thinking & Understanding

Babylon was thoroughly judged: the phrase ‘no more’ is used six times to emphasise her complete destruction (18:20-24). When the harlot (Babylon) on earth fell, the pure bride (the Church) in heaven would celebrate a wedding feast with the Lamb (Jesus). The bride's wedding garment would be white, made of the ‘righteous deeds’ of the saints who had remained untainted by the sins of Babylon. Rome, which had promised eternal happiness, fell. Similarly, this world as we know it will one day end, and those who rejoice are the believers who are invited to the Lord’s heavenly feast (19:1-10).

바빌론은 철저하게 심판을 받습니다. ‘다시는 보이거나 들리지 않을 것’이라는 표현이 5회 사용되어 완전한 파멸을 강조합니다(18:20-24). 땅에서 음녀 바빌론이 몰락하는 그때, 하늘에서는 순결한 신부(교회)가 어린양(예수님)과 혼인 잔치를 벌일 것입니다. 신부가 입은 예복은, 바빌론의 죄악에 물들지 않은 교인들의 ‘의로운 행위’로 지은 하얀 옷입니다. 영원한 행복을 약속할 줄 알았던 로마가 몰락하듯 이 세상 끝나는 날 진짜 행복한 사람은 하늘의 잔치에 초청받는 그리스도인들일 것입니다(19:1-10).

Who is God?

18:21-24 God extinguished the brilliant lights of Babylon. If we decide to live by the flashing lights of the world, it is impossible to keep the true light of the Lord. The saint who lives face to face with the light of God's glory reflects that light into the world. Do my daily words and actions reflect the kingdom of the world, or the kingdom of God?

바빌론의 화려한 등불을 끄십니다. 당장 세상의 화려한 등불이 눈에 들어오지만, 그것을 붙들고 살면 주님의 참 빛을 간직할 수 없습니다. 하나님의 영광의 빛을 대면하여 사는 성도는 그 빛을 세상에 비추며 삽니다. 내 일상의 말과 행동은 제국과 하나님 나라 중 어느 것을 반영합니까?

What lesson is God teaching me?

19:6-8 The saint who perseveres and triumphs will take part in the marriage feast of the Lamb. They are those who have lived uprightly, following the Word and not succumbing to the threats of Babylon. Without true righteous deeds, no amount of godly appearance will have any value in heaven. What good deeds am I cultivating right now?

인내하며 승리한 성도가 어린양의 혼인 잔치에 참여합니다. 그들은 땅에서 바빌론의 위협에 굴복하지 않고 말씀을 따라 올곧게 살아온 자들입니다. 의로운 행위가 따르지 않으면, 어떤 경건한 모양을 갖춰도 하늘에서 인정받지 못할 것입니다. 나는 지금 무엇을 단장하는 데 힘을 쏟고 있습니까?

Prayer

Lord, help me to adorn my life with righteous deeds, that I may be worthy to partake of the marriage supper of the Lamb.
