욥의 최후 변론에 대해 친구들이 대답할 말을 찾지 못하자 젊은 지혜자 엘리후가 하나님의 변호자로 자처합니다(32-37장). 

[ 욥기 32:1 - 32:22 ] (찬송366장)

1욥이 자신을 의인으로 여기므로 그 세 사람이 말을 그치니 2람 종족 부스 사람 바라겔의 아들 엘리후가 화를 내니 그가 욥에게 화를 냄은 욥이 하나님보다 자기가 의롭다 함이요 3또 세 친구에게 화를 냄은 그들이 능히 대답하지 못하면서도 욥을 정죄함이라 4엘리후는 그들의 나이가 자기보다 여러 해 위이므로 욥에게 말하기를 참고 있다가 5세 사람의 입에 대답이 없음을 보고 화를 내니라

 6부스 사람 바라겔의 아들 엘리후가 대답하여 이르되 나는 연소하고 당신들은 연로하므로 뒷전에서 나의 의견을 감히 내놓지 못하였노라 7내가 말하기를 나이가 많은 자가 말할 것이요 연륜이 많은 자가 지혜를 가르칠 것이라 하였노라 8그러나 사람의 속에는 영이 있고 전능자의 숨결이 사람에게 깨달음을 주시나니 9어른이라고 지혜롭거나 노인이라고 정의를 깨닫는 것이 아니니라 10그러므로 내가 말하노니 내 말을 들으라 나도 내 의견을 말하리라

 11보라 나는 당신들의 말을 기다렸노라 당신들의 슬기와 당신들의 말에 귀 기울이고 있었노라 12내가 자세히 들은즉 당신들 가운데 욥을 꺾어 그의 말에 대답하는 자가 없도다 13당신들이 말하기를 우리가 진상을 파악했으나 그를 추궁할 자는 하나님이시요 사람이 아니라 하지 말지니라 14그가 내게 자기 이론을 제기하지 아니하였으니 나도 당신들의 이론으로 그에게 대답하지 아니하리라 15그들이 놀라서 다시 대답하지 못하니 할 말이 없음이었더라 16당신들이 말 없이 가만히 서서 다시 대답하지 아니한즉 내가 어찌 더 기다리랴 17나는 내 본분대로 대답하고 나도 내 의견을 보이리라 18내 속에는 말이 가득하니 내 영이 나를 압박함이니라 19보라 내 배는 봉한 포도주통 같고 터지게 된 새 가죽 부대 같구나 20내가 말을 하여야 시원할 것이라 내 입을 열어 대답하리라 21나는 결코 사람의 낯을 보지 아니하며 사람에게 영광을 돌리지 아니하리니 22이는 아첨할 줄을 알지 못함이라 만일 그리하면 나를 지으신 이가 속히 나를 데려가시리로다

[ Job 32:1 - 32:22 ]

1So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.2 Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, burned with anger. He burned with anger at Job because he justified himself rather than God.3 He burned with anger also at Job’s three friends because they had found no answer, although they had declared Job to be in the wrong.4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.5 And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, he burned with anger.6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said: “I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you.7 I said, ‘Let days speak,  and many years teach wisdom.’8 But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand.9 It is not the old who are wise, nor the aged who understand what is right.10 Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me; let me also declare my opinion.’11 “Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your wise sayings, while you searched out what to say.12 I gave you my attention, and, behold, there was none among you who refuted Job or who answered his words.13 Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not a man.’14 He has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your speeches.15 “They are dismayed; they answer no more; they have not a word to say.16 And shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more?17 I also will answer with my share; I also will declare my opinion.18 For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me.19 Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent; like new wineskins ready to burst.20 I must speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.21 I will not show partiality to any man or use flattery toward any person.22 For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.
