악인은 이 세상에서 절대로 형통하지 못하고 갑자기 멸망한다는 소발과 친구들의 말에, 욥은 오히려 현실에서는 악인들이 더 잘된다고 반박합니다.

[ 욥기 21:1 - 21:16 ] (찬송357장)

1욥이 대답하여 이르되 2너희는 내 말을 자세히 들으라 이것이 너희의 위로가 될 것이니라 3나를 용납하여 말하게 하라 내가 말한 후에 너희가 조롱할지니라

 4나의 원망이 사람을 향하여 하는 것이냐 내 마음이 어찌 조급하지 아니하겠느냐 5너희가 나를 보면 놀라리라 손으로 입을 가리리라 6내가 기억하기만 하여도 불안하고 두려움이 내 몸을 잡는구나

 7어찌하여 악인이 생존하고 장수하며 세력이 강하냐 8그들의 후손이 앞에서 그들과 함께 굳게 서고 자손이 그들의 목전에서 그러하구나 9그들의 집이 평안하여 두려움이 없고 하나님의 매가 그들 위에 임하지 아니하며 10그들의 수소는 새끼를 배고 그들의 암소는 낙태하는 일이 없이 새끼를 낳는구나 11그들은 아이들을 양 떼 같이 내보내고 그들의 자녀들은 춤추는구나 12그들은 소고와 수금으로 노래하고 피리 불어 즐기며 13그들의 날을 행복하게 지내다가 잠깐 사이에 스올에 내려가느니라 14그러할지라도 그들은 하나님께 말하기를 우리를 떠나소서 우리가 주의 도리 알기를 바라지 아니하나이다 15전능자가 누구이기에 우리가 섬기며 우리가 그에게 기도한들 무슨 소용이 있으랴 하는구나 16그러나 그들의 행복이 그들의 손 안에 있지 아니하니 악인의 계획은 나에게서 멀구나

[ Job 21:1 - 21:16 ]

1Then Job answered and said:2 “Keep listening to my words, and let this be your comfort.3 Bear with me, and I will speak, and after I have spoken, mock on.4 As for me, is my complaint against man? Why should I not be impatient?5 Look at me and be appalled, and lay your hand over your mouth.6 When I remember, I am dismayed, and shuddering seizes my flesh.7 Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power?8 Their offspring are established in their presence, and their descendants before their eyes.9 Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them.10 Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and does not miscarry.11 They send out their little boys like a flock, and their children dance.12 They sing to the tambourine and the lyre and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.14 They say to God, ‘Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of your ways.15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to  him?’16 Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand? The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
