아모리 왕 시혼과 바산 왕 옥과의 전투에서 하나님은 이스라엘에게 승리를 안겨주십니다. 이에 이스라엘은 요단강 동쪽 땅을 점령하고 모압 평지에 이릅니다.

21이스라엘이 아모리 왕 시혼에게 사신을 보내어 이르되 22우리에게 당신의 땅을 지나가게 하소서 우리가 밭에든지 포도원에든지 들어가지 아니하며 우물물도 마시지 아니하고 당신의 지경에서 다 나가기까지 왕의 큰길로만 지나가리이다 하나

 23시혼이 이스라엘이 자기 영토로 지나감을 용납하지 아니하고 그의 백성을 다 모아 이스라엘을 치러 광야로 나와서 야하스에 이르러 이스라엘을 치므로 24이스라엘이 칼날로 그들을 쳐서 무찌르고 그 땅을 아르논에서부터 얍복까지 점령하여 암몬 자손에게까지 미치니 암몬 자손의 경계는 견고하더라 25이스라엘이 이같이 그 모든 성읍을 빼앗고 그 아모리인의 모든 성읍 헤스본과 그 모든 촌락에 거주하였으니 26헤스본은 아모리인의 왕 시혼의 도성이라 시혼이 그 전 모압 왕을 치고 그의 모든 땅을 아르논까지 그의 손에서 빼앗았더라 27그러므로 시인이 읊어 이르되 너희는 헤스본으로 올지어다 시혼의 성을 세워 견고히 할지어다 28헤스본에서 불이 나오며 시혼의 성에서 화염이 나와서 모압의 아르를 삼키며 아르논 높은 곳의 주인을 멸하였도다 29모압아 네가 화를 당하였도다 그모스의 백성아 네가 멸망하였도다 그가 그의 아들들을 도망하게 하였고 그의 딸들을 아모리인의 왕 시혼의 포로가 되게 하였도다 30우리가 그들을 쏘아서 헤스본을 디본까지 멸하였고 메드바에 가까운 노바까지 황폐하게 하였도다 하였더라 31이스라엘이 아모리인의 땅에 거주하였더니

 32모세가 또 사람을 보내어 야셀을 정탐하게 하고 그 촌락들을 빼앗고 그 곳에 있던 아모리인을 몰아 내었더라 33그들이 돌이켜 바산 길로 올라가매 바산 왕 옥이 그의 백성을 다 거느리고 나와서 그들을 맞아 에드레이에서 싸우려 하는지라 34여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 그를 두려워하지 말라 내가 그와 그의 백성과 그의 땅을 네 손에 넘겼나니 너는 헤스본에 거주하던 아모리인의 왕 시혼에게 행한 것 같이 그에게도 행할지니라 35이에 그와 그의 아들들과 그의 백성을 다 쳐서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하고 그의 땅을 점령하였더라

21Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,22 “Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into field or vineyard. We will not drink the water of a well. We will go by the King’s Highway until we have passed through your territory.”23 But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered all his people together and went out against Israel to the wilderness and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.24 And Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as to the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was strong.25 And Israel took all these cities, and Israel settled in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages.26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.27 Therefore the ballad singers say, “Come to Heshbon, let it be built; let the city of Sihon be established.28 For fire came out from Heshbon, flame from the city of Sihon. It devoured Ar of Moab, and swallowed the heights of the Arnon.29 Woe to you, O Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has made his sons fugitives, and his daughters captives, to an Amorite king, Sihon.30 So we overthrew them;  Heshbon, as far as Dibon, perished; and we laid waste as far as Nophah; fire spread as far as Medeba.”31 Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.32 And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who were there.33 Then they turned and went up by the way to Bashan. And Og the king of Bashan came out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.34 But the LORD said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people, and his land. And you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”35 So they defeated him and his sons and all his people, until he had no survivor left. And they possessed his land.
