겨자씨 비유와 누룩 비유를 통해 지금은 미약해 보이지만 나중에는 크게 성장할 하나님 나라의 속성을 보여 주시고, 앞서 소개한 가라지 비유를 해석해 주십니다. 

[ 마태복음 13:31 - 13:43 ] (찬송501장)

31또 비유를 들어 이르시되 천국은 마치 사람이 자기 밭에 갖다 심은 겨자씨 한 알 같으니 32이는 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되 자란 후에는 풀보다 커서 나무가 되매 공중의 새들이 와서 그 가지에 깃들이느니라

 33또 비유로 말씀하시되 천국은 마치 여자가 가루 서 말 속에 갖다 넣어 전부 부풀게 한 누룩과 같으니라

 34예수께서 이 모든 것을 무리에게 비유로 말씀하시고 비유가 아니면 아무 것도 말씀하지 아니하셨으니 35이는 선지자를 통하여 말씀하신 바 내가 입을 열어 비유로 말하고 창세부터 감추인 것들을 드러내리라 함을 이루려 하심이라

 36이에 예수께서 무리를 떠나사 집에 들어가시니 제자들이 나아와 이르되 밭의 가라지의 비유를 우리에게 설명하여 주소서 37대답하여 이르시되 좋은 씨를 뿌리는 이는 인자요 38밭은 세상이요 좋은 씨는 천국의 아들들이요 가라지는 악한 자의 아들들이요 39가라지를 뿌린 원수는 마귀요 추수 때는 세상 끝이요 추수꾼은 천사들이니 40그런즉 가라지를 거두어 불에 사르는 것 같이 세상 끝에도 그러하리라 41인자가 그 천사들을 보내리니 그들이 그 나라에서 모든 넘어지게 하는 것과 또 불법을 행하는 자들을 거두어 내어 42풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈게 되리라 43그 때에 의인들은 자기 아버지 나라에서 해와 같이 빛나리라 귀 있는 자는 들으라

[ Matthew 13:31 - 13:43 ]

31He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field.32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”34 All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable.35 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.”37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Just as old poets revealed God’s plan of salvation through metaphors, Jesus also revealed the hidden secrets of God’s kingdom through parables. The parable of the mustard seed demonstrated the power of God’s kingdom to give life. The parable of the leaven demonstrated the impact of God’s kingdom. Both parables revealed that the beginning of God’s kingdom was small and secretive (vv. 31-35). Jesus explained the parable of the weeds. The parable itself had emphasised the sower’s patience, but when explaining the parable, Jesus emphasised the drastically differing fates of the righteous and the wicked (vv. 36-43). 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 31-33 The great kingdom of God begins small and in secret. Rather than hoping only in great and impressive things, let’s regard the small tasks we are able to perform and the small communities that we are a part of as precious. God’s kingdom will grow limitlessly through the small, impactful efforts of small communities that possess the power of life. 

Vv. 40-43 God’s kingdom is a kingdom where justice has been established. In the world today, the wicked are not properly punished and the righteous are not properly rewarded. However, when the world ends, on the day of judgement, God will execute righteous judgement. Do not align yourself with the wicked because of the unjust state of the world today. Instead, keep your eyes on the day that justice will be established as you navigate your life. 

Prayer

Lord, help me to not to be discouraged by the prosperity of the wicked in the world today but to live in a firm and dauntless manner by placing my hope in heaven.
