바리새인들은 예수님이 귀신의 왕 바알세불을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아낸다고 생각합니다. 예수님은 반론을 제기하며 하나님 나라의 도래를 알리십니다.

22그 때에 귀신 들려 눈 멀고 말 못하는 사람을 데리고 왔거늘 예수께서 고쳐 주시매 그 말 못하는 사람이 말하며 보게 된지라 23무리가 다 놀라 이르되 이는 다윗의 자손이 아니냐 하니

 24바리새인들은 듣고 이르되 이가 귀신의 왕 바알세불을 힘입지 않고는 귀신을 쫓아내지 못하느니라 하거늘 25예수께서 그들의 생각을 아시고 이르시되 스스로 분쟁하는 나라마다 황폐하여질 것이요 스스로 분쟁하는 동네나 집마다 서지 못하리라 26만일 사탄이 사탄을 쫓아내면 스스로 분쟁하는 것이니 그리하고야 어떻게 그의 나라가 서겠느냐 27또 내가 바알세불을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아내면 너희의 아들들은 누구를 힘입어 쫓아내느냐 그러므로 그들이 너희의 재판관이 되리라 28그러나 내가 하나님의 성령을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아내는 것이면 하나님의 나라가 이미 너희에게 임하였느니라 29사람이 먼저 강한 자를 결박하지 않고서야 어떻게 그 강한 자의 집에 들어가 그 세간을 강탈하겠느냐 결박한 후에야 그 집을 강탈하리라 30나와 함께 아니하는 자는 나를 반대하는 자요 나와 함께 모으지 아니하는 자는 헤치는 자니라

22Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw.23 And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?”24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.”25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.26 And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.29 Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

After seeing Jesus heal a demon-possessed man, the Pharisees condemned Jesus as a servant of Satan. Jesus exposed the injustice of their assertion with two questions. If Satan were to cast out Satan, Satan’s kingdom would be divided. Additionally, there were some among the Pharisees who also drove out demons, so by the same logic, they too would have to be borrowing the power of Satan (vv. 22-27). The rational interpretation of the miracle of chasing out demons was that God’s kingdom had already overcome the kingdom of Satan and God’s Spirit was eliminating all kinds of affliction.  There is no middle ground between these two kingdoms (vv. 28-30). 

Who is Jesus?

Vv. 28- 29 Jesus drove out demons by the power of the Spirit. God’s kingdom could not be established in any place where Satan acted as king, so Satan needed to be bound first. We cannot be ruled by both Satan and God. Entering God’s kingdom means ending the dominion of Satan. In what areas of your life must you swiftly escape from Satan’s rule? 

What lesson is God teaching me?

V. 30 There is no neutral ground in the spiritual battle. Anyone who does not stand on the side of Jesus stands on the side of Satan. If we are not ruled by Jesus, we are ruled by Satan. All people must make a choice between establishing God’s kingdom or fighting against it. 

Prayer

Lord, help me not to let the heaven that has been preciously bestowed on me be taken away by Satan.
