생명의 하나님, God of Life [ 시편 104:1 - 104:12 ] - 찬송가 64 장
여호와 나의 하나님이여 주는 심히 위대하시며 존귀와 권위로 옷 입으셨나이다 (시편 104:1)

몇 년 전 겨울, 내가 사는 도시는 유난히 뼈가 시리도록 추운 날씨의 긴 겨울을 보내고 나서야 따뜻한 봄 날씨를 맞이했습니다. 그때 2주 동안 계속해서 집 밖의 온도는 영하로 떨어졌습니다(섭씨 영하 20도).
그 중에서도 몹시 추웠던 어느 날 아침, 새들이 지저귀는 소리가 밤의 정적을 깨뜨렸습니다. 수십 마리, 아니, 어쩌면 수백 마리의 새들이 목청을 놓아 노래를 하고 있었습니다. 잘 몰랐다면, 그 작은 창조물들이 창조주에게 ‘날씨를 좀 따뜻하게 해주세요.’라고 외친다고 장담했을 것입니다!
조류연구 전문가들에 의하면, 우리가 늦겨울 아침에 듣는 많은 새소리들은 대부분 수컷 새들이 짝을 짓기 위하여 암컷들을 유혹하거나 자기들의 영역을 표시하기 위한 시도라고 말합니다. 하나님은 생명의 하나님이시기 때문에, 새들의 지저귀는 소리는 하나님께서 그의 창조물들이 생명을 유지하고 번성하도록 세밀하게 조정하고 계심을 상기시켜줍니다.
번성하고 있는 하나님의 땅을 보며 경탄하며 시편기자는 그의 시편을 “내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하라”(시 104:1)라는 말로 시작합니다. 그는 계속해서 “공중의 새들도 그 가에서 깃들이며 나뭇가지 사이에서 지저귀는도다”(12절)라고 쓰고 있습니다.
노래하고 집을 짓는 새들로부터 “크고 작은 동물들이 무수한”(25절) 넓은 바다에 이르기까지, 우리는 모든 생명이 번성하도록 보장해주려 하시는 창조주를 찬양해야 할 이유들을 곳곳에서 찾을 수 있습니다.

2. 주께서 옷을 입음 같이 빛을 입으시며 하늘을 휘장 같이 치시며
3. 물에 자기 누각의 들보를 얹으시며 구름으로 자기 수레를 삼으시고 바람 날개로 다니시며
4. 바람을 자기 사신으로 삼으시고 불꽃으로 자기 사역자를 삼으시며
5. 땅에 기초를 놓으사 영원히 흔들리지 아니하게 하셨나이다
6. 옷으로 덮음 같이 주께서 땅을 깊은 바다로 덮으시매 물이 산들 위로 솟아올랐으나
7. 주께서 꾸짖으시니 물은 도망하며 주의 우렛소리로 말미암아 빨리 가며

24. 여호와여 주께서 하신 일이 어찌 그리 많은지요 주께서 지혜로 그들을 다 지으셨으니 주께서 지으신 것들이 땅에 가득하니이다
25. 거기에는 크고 넓은 바다가 있고 그 속에는 생물 곧 크고 작은 동물들이 무수하니이다
26. 그 곳에는 배들이 다니며 주께서 지으신 리워야단이 그 속에서 노나이다
27. 이것들은 다 주께서 때를 따라 먹을 것을 주시기를 바라나이다
28. 주께서 주신즉 그들이 받으며 주께서 손을 펴신즉 그들이 좋은 것으로 만족하다가
29. 주께서 낯을 숨기신즉 그들이 떨고 주께서 그들의 호흡을 거두신즉 그들은 죽어 먼지로 돌아가나이다
30. 주의 영을 보내어 그들을 창조하사 지면을 새롭게 하시나이다

God of Life[ Psalms 104:1 - 104:12 ] - hymn 64
Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. (Psalm 104:1)

A few winters ago, my hometown experienced an unusually long blast of bone-chilling temperatures that finally gave way to the warmer weather of spring. For two weeks straight, the outside thermometer dipped well below the sub-zero degree mark(-20 C; -5 F).
On one particularly bitter cold morning, the sound of chirping birds broke the silence of night. Dozens, if not hundreds, sang their hearts out. If I didn’t know any better, I could have sworn the little creatures were crying out to their Creator to please warm things up!
Bird experts tell us that the multitude of birdsongs we hear during late winter mornings are mostly male birds, attempting to attract mates and claim their territories. Their chirping reminded me that God fine-tuned His creation to sustain and flourish life—because He is a God of life.
In a psalm that marvels at God’s flourishing earth, the author begins, “Let all that I am praise the Lord”(Psalm 104:1 nlt). He went on to write, “The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches”(v. 12).
From singing and nesting birds to a vast ocean “teeming with creatures beyond number”(v. 25), we see reasons to praise the Creator for the lengths He’s gone to ensure that all of life thrives. Jeff Olson

24. How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number -- living things both large and small.
26. There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
27. These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
28. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
29. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
