멍청한 양, 선한 목자, Dumb Sheep, Good Shepherd [ 에스겔 34:7 - 34:16 ] - 찬송가 569 장
목자가 양 가운데에 있는 날에 양이 흩어졌으면 그 떼를 찾는 것 같이 내가 내 양을 찾아서 (에스겔 34:12)

내 친구 채드는 와이오밍주에서 양치기로 일 년을 지냈습니다. 그는 나에게 “양들은 얼마나 멍청한지 바로 앞에 있는 것만 먹어. 앞에 있는 풀을 다 먹고도 새 풀을 찾으려고 돌아보지 않아. 그냥 흙이라도 먹기 시작할 거야!”라고 말했습니다.
우리는 웃었지만 나는 성경이 얼마나 자주 사람들을 양들에 비유하는지 생각하지 않을 수 없었습니다. 우리에게 목자가 필요한 것은 아주 당연합니다! 그러나 양들은 너무 멍청하기 때문에 아무나 목자가 되어선 안 됩니다. 양들에게는 보살펴주는 목자가 필요합니다. 에스겔 선지자는 바벨론에 잡혀 유배 중이던 하나님의 백성들에게 편지하면서 그들을 나쁜 목자에게 이끌리는 양으로 비유했습니다. 이스라엘의 지도자들은 양떼를 보살피기보다는 착취하여 이득을 취하고(3절), 짐승들이 집어삼키도록 내버려두었습니다(5절).
그러나 그들에게 희망이 없지는 않았습니다. 선한 목자이신 하나님께서 그들을 착취하는 지도자들로부터 구해주시기로 약속하셨습니다. 주님은 그들을 고향으로 데려와 푸른 풀밭에 누이시며 안식을 주시겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 주님은 상한 자를 고치시고 잃어버린 자를 찾으실 것이며(11-16절), 짐승들을 쫓아내어 그분의 양떼가 안전하게 하실 것입니다(28절).
하나님의 양떼는 사랑의 보살핌과 인도가 필요합니다. 우리를 언제나 푸른 풀밭으로 인도하시는 목자이신 주님이 우리에게 있으니 얼마나 복된지 모릅니다!(14절).

7. ○그러므로 목자들아 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다
8. 주 여호와의 말씀에 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노라 내 양 떼가 노략 거리가 되고 모든 들짐승의 밥이 된 것은 목자가 없기 때문이라 내 목자들이 내 양을 찾지 아니하고 자기만 먹이고 내 양 떼를 먹이지 아니하였도다
9. 그러므로 너희 목자들아 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다
10. 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 내가 목자들을 대적하여 내 양 떼를 그들의 손에서 찾으리니 목자들이 양을 먹이지 못할 뿐 아니라 그들이 다시는 자기도 먹이지 못할지라 내가 내 양을 그들의 입에서 건져내어서 다시는 그 먹이가 되지 아니하게 하리라

13. 내가 그것들을 만민 가운데에서 끌어내며 여러 백성 가운데에서 모아 그 본토로 데리고 가서 이스라엘 산 위에와 시냇가에와 그 땅 모든 거주지에서 먹이되
14. 좋은 꼴을 먹이고 그 우리를 이스라엘 높은 산에 두리니 그것들이 그 곳에 있는 좋은 우리에 누워 있으며 이스라엘 산에서 살진 꼴을 먹으리라
15. 내가 친히 내 양의 목자가 되어 그것들을 누워 있게 할지라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라
16. 그 잃어버린 자를 내가 찾으며 쫓기는 자를 내가 돌아오게 하며 상한 자를 내가 싸매 주며 병든 자를 내가 강하게 하려니와 살진 자와 강한 자는 내가 없애고 정의대로 그것들을 먹이리라

Dumb Sheep, Good Shepherd [ Ezekiel 34:7 - 34:16 ] - hymn 569
As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. (Ezekiel 34:12)

My friend Chad spent a year as a shepherd in Wyoming. “Sheep are so dumb that they’ll only eat what is right in front of them,” he told me. “Even if they’ve eaten all the grass in front of them, they won’t turn to look for a fresh patch—they’ll just start eating dirt!”
We laughed, and I couldn’t help but think about how often the Bible compares humans to sheep. No wonder we need a shepherd! But since sheep are so dumb, not just any shepherd will do. Sheep need a shepherd who cares about them. When the prophet Ezekiel wrote to God’s people in exile, captives in Babylon, he compared them to sheep led by bad shepherds.
Instead of caring for the flock, Israel’s leaders had exploited them, profiting from them (V. 3) and then leaving them for the wild animals to devour (V. 5). But they were not without hope.
God, the Good Shepherd, promised to rescue them from the leaders who exploited them. He promised to bring them home, put them in lush pastures, and give them rest. He would heal the injured and go after the lost (VV. 11–16). He would banish wild animals, so that His flock would be safe (V. 28).
Members of God’s flock are in need of tender care and direction. How blessed we are to have a Shepherd who is always leading us to green pastures! (V.14). AMY PETERSON

7. "`Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
8. As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and has become food for all the wild animals, and because my shepherds did not search for my flock but cared for themselves rather than for my flock,
9. therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
10. This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves. I will rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.
11. "`For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.
12. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.
13. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land.
14. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
15. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD.
16. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.
