다윗의 왕조가 산산이 부서졌습니다. 하나님이 이스라엘에게 진노하셨기 때문입니다. 하나님이 언약을 기억하셔서 용서하시는 것 말고 회복될 방법은 없습니다. 

[ 시편 89:38 - 89:52 ] (찬송400장)

다윗 후손인 왕들을 버리신 하나님 

38그러나 주께서 주의 기름 부음 받은 자에게 노하사 물리치셔서 버리셨으며 39주의 종의 언약을 미워하사 그의 관을 땅에 던져 욕되게 하셨으며 40그의 모든 울타리를 파괴하시며 그 요새를 무너뜨리셨으므로 41길로 지나가는 자들에게 다 탈취를 당하며 그의 이웃에게 욕을 당하나이다 42주께서 그의 대적들의 오른손을 높이시고 그들의 모든 원수들은 기쁘게 하셨으나 43그의 칼날은 둔하게 하사 그가 전장에서 더 이상 버티지 못하게 하셨으며 44그의 영광을 그치게 하시고 그의 왕위를 땅에 엎으셨으며 45그의 젊은 날들을 짧게 하시고 그를 수치로 덮으셨나이다 (셀라)

 언약을 성실히 이행해줄 것을 간구함 

 46여호와여 언제까지니이까 스스로 영원히 숨기시리이까 주의 노가 언제까지 불붙듯 하시겠나이까 47나의 때가 얼마나 짧은지 기억하소서 주께서 모든 사람을 어찌 그리 허무하게 창조하셨는지요 48누가 살아서 죽음을 보지 아니하고 자기의 영혼을 스올의 권세에서 건지리이까 (셀라) 49주여 주의 성실하심으로 다윗에게 맹세하신 그 전의 인자하심이 어디 있나이까 50주는 주의 종들이 받은 비방을 기억하소서 많은 민족의 비방이 내 품에 있사오니 51여호와여 이 비방은 주의 원수들이 주의 기름 부음 받은 자의 행동을 비방한 것이로소이다

38But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed.39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust.40 You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins.41 All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle.44 You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground.45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?47 Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man!48 What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah49 Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David?50 Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations,51 with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed.52 Blessed be the LORD forever! Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

The poet was faced by a situation that made him believe God’s eternal promises had been terminated. The royal house of David had fallen, Israel had been destroyed and the enemies laughed (vv. 38-45). The poet cried out to God. He pleaded for God to forgive Israel and be with them once more. He prayed for God to remember his promises to establish the house of David forever and judge the enemies who trampled on and scorned the house of David. The poet ended his psalm by resolving to praise God ‘forever’ in all situations (vv. 36-52). 

Who is God?

Vv. 38-45 God broke his promises and took away the sovereignty of the house of David. This was because they first ceased to acknowledge God as Lord. They lived according to their desires, believing that judgement was unlikely, only for that unlikely judgement to become reality.  Let’s not think lightly of God’s warning of judgement. 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 46-51 The poet’s prayer was not a prayer of complaint against God’s judgement. He was protesting that although the judgement was deserved, the judgement they had received already was enough. He pleaded for God to remember the love he had for David in the beginning. How are you praying for the churches in Korea? 

Prayer

Lord, I pray that even if you judge our foolishness, you will also remember your love and restore us once again.
