보지 못하는 이들과 말 못하는 이를 고쳐 주십니다. 목자 없는 양 같은 이스라엘 백성을 불쌍히 여기시고, 추수할 일꾼을 기다리시는 하나님의 심정을 말씀하십니다.

27예수께서 거기에서 떠나가실새 두 맹인이 따라오며 소리 질러 이르되 다윗의 자손이여 우리를 불쌍히 여기소서 하더니 28예수께서 집에 들어가시매 맹인들이 그에게 나아오거늘 예수께서 이르시되 내가 능히 이 일 할 줄을 믿느냐 대답하되 주여 그러하오이다 하니 29이에 예수께서 그들의 눈을 만지시며 이르시되 너희 믿음대로 되라 하시니 30그 눈들이 밝아진지라 예수께서 엄히 경고하시되 삼가 아무에게도 알리지 말라 하셨으나 31그들이 나가서 예수의 소문을 그 온 땅에 퍼뜨리니라

 32그들이 나갈 때에 귀신 들려 말 못하는 사람을 예수께 데려오니 33귀신이 쫓겨나고 말 못하는 사람이 말하거늘 무리가 놀랍게 여겨 이르되 이스라엘 가운데서 이런 일을 본 적이 없다 하되 34바리새인들은 이르되 그가 귀신의 왕을 의지하여 귀신을 쫓아낸다 하더라

 35예수께서 모든 도시와 마을에 두루 다니사 그들의 회당에서 가르치시며 천국 복음을 전파하시며 모든 병과 모든 약한 것을 고치시니라 36무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기시니 이는 그들이 목자 없는 양과 같이 고생하며 기진함이라 37이에 제자들에게 이르시되 추수할 것은 많되 일꾼이 적으니 38그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할 일꾼들을 보내 주소서 하라 하시니라

27And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.”28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.”31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.32 As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him.33 And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.”34 But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.”35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Thinking & Understanding

The two blind men came to Jesus seeking his mercy, because they believed that Jesus was the Messiah, and they were healed by that faith (vv. 27-31). The record of Jesus’ healing of a man who could not speak is focused more on the response of the crowds than the healing itself. The crowds recognised and were amazed by Jesus’ special authority, but the Pharisees, who felt their authority was threatened, denied it (vv. 32-34). Jesus manifested the gospel through his teachings and acts of healing. The merciful shepherd Jesus desired for his disciples to continue his work of compassion (vv. 35-38). 

Who is Jesus?

Vv. 27-30 Jesus responds in accordance with our faith. Jesus confirmed the faith of the blind men and opened their eyes in accordance with their faith. If we believe that Jesus has the power to restore us from destitution, let’s earnestly seek the Lord’s compassion like the two blind men.  

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 36-38 We must follow in Jesus’ footsteps and preach God’s mercy and compassion. This is because Jesus has entrusted us with the work of bestowing compassion on others.  Disciples of Jesus need eyes to see those who are in need, hearts that are compassionate towards them, feet that walk towards them, and hands that hold onto them. Do you share the compassion of Jesus to others? 

Prayer

Lord, help me to learn from Jesus’s compassion and care for my suffering neighbours.
