21 그 때에 내가 아하와 강 가에서 금식을 선포하고 우리 하나님 앞에서 스스로 겸비하여 우리와 우리 어린 아이와 모든 소유를 위하여 평탄한 길을 그에게 간구하였으니

22 이는 우리가 전에 왕에게 아뢰기를 우리 하나님의 손은 자기를 찾는 모든 자에게 선을 베푸시고 자기를 배반하는 모든 자에게는 권능과 진노를 내리신다 하였으므로 길에서 적군을 막고 우리를 도울 보병과 마병을 왕에게 구하기를 부끄러워 하였음이라

23 그러므로 우리가 이를 위하여 금식하며 우리 하나님께 간구하였더니 그의 응낙하심을 입었느니라

24 그 때에 내가 제사장의 우두머리들 중 열두 명 곧 세레뱌와 하사뱌와 그의 형제 열 명을 따로 세우고

25 그들에게 왕과 모사들과 방백들과 또 그 곳에 있는 이스라엘 무리가 우리 하나님의 성전을 위하여 드린 은과 금과 그릇들을 달아서 주었으니

26 내가 달아서 그들 손에 준 것은 은이 육백오십 달란트요 은 그릇이 백 달란트요 금이 백 달란트며

27 또 금잔이 스무 개라 그 무게는 천 다릭이요 또 아름답고 빛나 금 같이 보배로운 놋 그릇이 두 개라

28 내가 그들에게 이르되 너희는 여호와께 거룩한 자요 이 그릇들도 거룩하고 그 은과 금은 너희 조상들의 하나님 여호와께 즐거이 드린 예물이니

29 너희는 예루살렘 여호와의 성전 골방에 이르러 제사장들과 레위 사람의 우두머리들과 이스라엘의 족장들 앞에서 이 그릇을 달기까지 삼가 지키라

30 이에 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 은과 금과 그릇을 예루살렘 우리 하나님의 성전으로 가져가려 하여 그 무게대로 받으니라

31 첫째 달 십이 일에 우리가 아하와 강을 떠나 예루살렘으로 갈새 우리 하나님의 손이 우리를 도우사 대적과 길에 매복한 자의 손에서 건지신지라

32 이에 예루살렘에 이르러 거기서 삼 일 간 머물고

33 제사일에 우리 하나님의 성전에서 은과 금과 그릇을 달아서 제사장 우리아의 아들 므레못의 손에 넘기니 비느하스의 아들 엘르아살과 레위 사람 예수아의 아들 요사밧과 빈누이의 아들 노아댜가 함께 있어

34 모든 것을 다 세고 달아 보고 그 무게의 총량을 그 때에 기록하였느니라

35 사로잡혔던 자의 자손 곧 이방에서 돌아온 자들이 이스라엘의 하나님께 번제를 드렸는데 이스라엘 전체를 위한 수송아지가 열두 마리요 또 숫양이 아흔여섯 마리요 어린 양이 일흔일곱 마리요 또 속죄제의 숫염소가 열두 마리니 모두 여호와께 드린 번제물이라

36 무리가 또 왕의 조서를 왕의 총독들과 유브라데 강 건너편 총독들에게 넘겨 주매 그들이 백성과 하나님의 성전을 도왔느니라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

21-23,31절   에스라와 백성이 바벨론 지역을 떠나기 전 아하와 강가에서 금식하며 기도한 것을 들으시고, 그들이 예루살렘에 도착할 때까지 호위해 주셨습니다. 많은 기명과 예물을 가지고 어린아이들과 함께 이동하는 4개월의 여정은 그 자체만으로도 어려웠고, 강도떼의 습격을 받을 위험도 있었습니다. 실제로 여정 중에 도적들의 습격을 받기도 했지만, 하나님은 귀환자들과 함께하시며 그들이 모든 위기를 지나 평안히 목적지에 이르게 하셨습니다. 예루살렘으로 향하는 그 길에 계셨던 하나님은 우리의 인생길에 함께하시며 선하신 손길로 은혜를 베푸십니다.

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

21-23절   에스라와 백성이 출발 전에 금식하며 안전한 여정을 위해 기도한 데는 호위병 없이 이동해야 한다는 현실적인 이유도 컸습니다. 일찍이 에스라는 아닥사스다왕에게 호위병을 달라는 말을 하지 못했는데, 왕 앞에서 하나님이 보살펴 주신다고 선언하고서 호위병을 달라고 하는 것은 하나님을 믿지 못하는 부끄러운 일이었기 때문입니다. 하나님이 돌보신다고 말하면서 하나님을 믿지 못하는 삶을 살고 있지는 않습니까?24-30절   귀환하는 백성에게 중요한 일은 기명과 예물을 성전으로 운반하는 것이었습니다. 귀환의 목적이 성전의 회복과 신앙의 개혁이기 때문입니다. 그래서 에스라는 기명과 예물을 맡아 운반할 책임자들을 따로 세워 거룩함으로 그 일을 감당할 것을 부탁했습니다. 우리도 하나님의 나라와 뜻을 위해 따로 세움을 받아 거룩한 길을 갈 것을 명받은 일꾼들입니다. 정직하게 일하고 경건하게 생활하는 것이 우리에게 주어진 사명입니다.31-36절   예루살렘에 도착한 백성은 잠시 휴식을 취한 후 곧바로 하나님께 드린 예물을 인계하고, 번제를 드리고, 왕의 조서를 관원들에게 전달했습니다. 자신들이 살아갈 터전을 닦는 일보다 하나님을 예배하고 맡겨진 책임을 다하는 것을 우선시한 것입니다. 하나님을 향한 예배와 하나님이 맡기신 사명을 뒷전으로 미루고 나의 안전과 성공만을 추구하진 않는지 돌아봅시다.

Summing up[ Ezra 8:21 - 8:36 ](Hymn393)21Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods.22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, “The hand of our God is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.”23 So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.24 Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them.25 And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God that the king and his counselors and his lords and all Israel there present had offered.26 I weighed out into their hand650 talents of silver, and silver vessels worth200 talents, and100 talents of gold,27  20 bowls of gold worth1,000 darics, and two vessels of fine bright bronze as precious as gold.28 And I said to them, “You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers.29 Guard them and keep them until you weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites and the heads of fathers' houses in Israel at Jerusalem, within the chambers of the house of the LORD.”30 So the priests and the Levites took over the weight of the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God.31 Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushes by the way.32 We came to Jerusalem, and there we remained three days.33 On the fourth day, within the house of our God, the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed into the hands of Meremoth the priest, son of Uriah, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui.34 The whole was counted and weighed, and the weight of everything was recorded.35 At that time those who had come from captivity, the returned exiles, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and as a sin offering twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD.36 They also delivered the king's commissions to the king's satraps and to the governors of the province Beyond the River, and they aided the people and the house of God.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Once gathered at the river that ran to Ahava, Ezra proclaimed a fast and prayed for God's protection. Rather than requesting an escort from the Persian king, he decided to rely entirely on God (v. 21). Although robbers attacked them during their journey, God protected them, so that they arrived safely in Jerusalem (vv. 22-31). After resting for three days, they organised the temple vessels and offered sacrifices to God in the temple in Jerusalem, which they had waited so long to see (vv. 32-36).

아하와 강가에서 에스라는 하나님의 보호를 구하며 금식을 선포합니다. 페르시아 왕에게 호위 병력을 요청하기보다, 하나님께 온전히 의지하기로 결단합니다(21절). 여정 중 도적의 습격도 있었지만, 하나님이 보호하심으로 무사히 예루살렘에 도착합니다(22-31절). 사흘간 휴식한 후 성전 기물을 정리하고, 오랜 시간 기다려 온 예루살렘 성전에서 하나님께 제사를 드립니다(32-36절).

Who is God?

Vv. 22, 31 God guards and guides his people. Just as a shepherd guards his sheep, God protects us on the wilderness-like path of life. Though threats and temptations are always present, a life held in God's hands is the safest path we can walk. Therefore, trust in the Lord; journeying with him is ultimately the most peaceful path.

자신의 백성의 길을 지키시며 인도하시는 분입니다. 목자가 양을 지키듯, 하나님은 광야 같은 인생길에서 우리를 보호하십니다. 성도의 삶에는 늘 위협과 유혹이 도사리지만, 하나님의 손에 붙들린 삶은 가장 안전한 길입니다. 주님을 의지하십시오. 그분이 함께하시는 여정이 결국 가장 평안한 길입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 35-36 Ezra and the people offered a sacrifice of thanksgiving as their prayers were answered. The earnest prayer they lifted before departing Babylon was met with God’s guidance throughout their journey. Do you sometimes forget to thank God after he answers your prayers? Let us always remember to offer prayers of thanksgiving after receiving his answers.
