1 이스라엘 자손이 각자의 성읍에 살았더니 일곱째 달에 이르러 일제히 예루살렘에 모인지라

2 요사닥의 아들 예수아와 그의 형제 제사장들과 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 그의 형제들이 다 일어나 이스라엘 하나님의 제단을 만들고 하나님의 사람 모세의 율법에 기록한 대로 번제를 그 위에서 드리려 할새

3 무리가 모든 나라 백성을 두려워하여 제단을 그 터에 세우고 그 위에서 아침 저녁으로 여호와께 번제를 드리며

4 기록된 규례대로 초막절을 지켜 번제를 매일 정수대로 날마다 드리고

5 그 후에는 항상 드리는 번제와 초하루와 여호와의 모든 거룩한 절기의 번제와 사람이 여호와께 기쁘게 드리는 예물을 드리되

6 일곱째 달 초하루부터 비로소 여호와께 번제를 드렸으나 그 때에 여호와의 성전 지대는 미처 놓지 못한지라

7 이에 석수와 목수에게 돈을 주고 또 시돈 사람과 두로 사람에게 먹을 것과 마실 것과 기름을 주고 바사 왕 고레스의 명령대로 백향목을 레바논에서 욥바 해변까지 운송하게 하였더라

8 예루살렘에 있는 하나님의 성전에 이른 지 이 년 둘째 달에 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 요사닥의 아들 예수아와 다른 형제 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 무릇 사로잡혔다가 예루살렘에 돌아온 자들이 공사를 시작하고 이십 세 이상의 레위 사람들을 세워 여호와의 성전 공사를 감독하게 하매

9 이에 예수아와 그의 아들들과 그의 형제들과 갓미엘과 그의 아들들과 유다 자손과 헤나닷 자손과 그의 형제 레위 사람들이 일제히 일어나 하나님의 성전 일꾼들을 감독하니라

10 건축자가 여호와의 성전의 기초를 놓을 때에 제사장들은 예복을 입고 나팔을 들고 아삽 자손 레위 사람들은 제금을 들고 서서 이스라엘 왕 다윗의 규례대로 여호와를 찬송하되

11 찬양으로 화답하며 여호와께 감사하여 이르되 주는 지극히 선하시므로 그의 인자하심이 이스라엘에게 영원하시도다 하니 모든 백성이 여호와의 성전 기초가 놓임을 보고 여호와를 찬송하며 큰 소리로 즐거이 부르며

12 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 나이 많은 족장들은 첫 성전을 보았으므로 이제 이 성전의 기초가 놓임을 보고 대성통곡하였으나 여러 사람은 기쁨으로 크게 함성을 지르니

13 백성이 크게 외치는 소리가 멀리 들리므로 즐거이 부르는 소리와 통곡하는 소리를 백성들이 분간하지 못하였더라

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

1,6절   고향으로 돌아온 사람들은 일곱째 달에 ‘일제히’ 예루살렘에 모여 희생 제사를 드렸습니다. 아직 성전의 기초를 놓지 못한 상황이지만, 큰일에 앞서 먼저 마음을 기울여 하나님의 뜻을 찾으며 예배를 드린 것입니다. 일곱째 달은 유대인들에게 새해가 시작되는 날이기도 합니다(레 23:24). 그들은 예배로 새해를 시작함으로 하나님을 예배하는 신앙의 중심부터 찾았습니다. 정착하면서 제 삶의 자리를 찾느라 여념이 없었지만, 신앙의 중심을 놓치면 삶의 주변이 흩어져 버림을 알기 때문입니다. 사역도 삶도 예배를 중심에, 최우선에 둘 때 흔들리지 않습니다. 함께 모여 마음을 모으고 거룩한 행동을 올려 드리는 곳이 하나님의 얼굴빛이 향하는 복의 자리입니다.2-5절   희생 제사를 드리는 사람들은 모세의 율법에 기록된 대로 합법적으로 절기를 지키며 하나님을 예배했습니다. 아직 예배에 적합한 장소도 제대로 갖춰지지 않았고 아침저녁으로 매일 드리는 예배가 쉽지 않았을 테지만 중단하지 않았습니다. 오늘 우리가 매일 드리는 예배와 묵상이 매 순간 강렬할 순 없지만, 매일 반복하는 묵상의 삶이야말로 매일 먹는 밥처럼 우리 영혼을 진실로 윤택하게 하는 일입니다.7-9절   성전 건축을 위해 실질적인 준비가 이뤄지고 있습니다. 기술자들과 필요한 물건이 준비되고, 이를 감독할 사람들이 세워졌습니다. 하나님이 약속하신 일을 추진할 때, 믿음으로 한다고 해서 사람이 감당해야 할 일들을 소홀히 다루지 않았습니다.10-13절   ‘모세의 율법에 기록된 대로’ 제사를 드렸듯이, 성전 기초가 놓일 때 ‘다윗의 전통에 따라’ 하나님을 찬송했습니다. 아름다운 옛 전통을 따름으로 새 시대를 여는 길을 다진 것입니다. 그때 옛 영광만 못한 현실에 슬퍼하는 나이 많은 사람들의 통곡 소리와 새로운 시작을 기뻐하는 새 세대의 함성이 뒤섞였습니다. 누가 맞는지 따질 일이 아니라 우는 사람들은 웃음소리에, 웃는 사람들은 울음소리에 귀를 기울여야 합니다. 과거를 기억하고 현재를 직시하는 조화로운 안목이 필요합니다.

공동체-제 삶의 자리를 잡느라 무엇보다 중요한 하나님 중심의 삶을 게을리하지 않게 하옵소서.

Resetting the Foundation 기초부터 다시

Summing up[ Ezra 3:1 - 3:13 ](Hymn9)1When the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in the towns, the people gathered as one man to Jerusalem.2 Then arose Jeshua the son of Jozadak, with his fellow priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel with his kinsmen, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.3 They set the altar in its place, for fear was on them because of the peoples of the lands, and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, burnt offerings morning and evening.4 And they kept the Feast of Booths, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number according to the rule, as each day required,5 and after that the regular burnt offerings, the offerings at the new moon and at all the appointed feasts of the LORD, and the offerings of everyone who made a freewill offering to the LORD.6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.7 So they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Cyrus king of Persia.8 Now in the second year after their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak made a beginning, together with the rest of their kinsmen, the priests and the Levites and all who had come to Jerusalem from the captivity. They appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to supervise the work of the house of the LORD.9 And Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, and Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together supervised the workmen in the house of God, along with the sons of Henadad and the Levites, their sons and brothers.10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the directions of David king of Israel.11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever toward Israel.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers' houses, old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy,13 so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people's weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard far away.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

Before rebuilding the temple, the people first gathered in Jerusalem to rebuild the altar. They offered daily burnt offerings and celebrated the Feast of Booths (vv. 1-6). Only after worship was restored according to the law did the construction of the temple begin. With the support of the Persian king and the cooperation of the Jewish leaders, the foundation of the temple was laid. The priests, choir, and all the people rejoiced and praised God with one heart. However, along with the sounds of joy, there were also sounds of weeping from those who remembered the first temple (vv. 7-13).

성전 재건에 앞서, 백성은 먼저 예루살렘에 모여 제단을 다시 쌓고, 매일 번제를 드리며 초막절을 지킵니다(1-6절). 율법에 따른 예배가 회복된 후에야 성전 건축이 시작됩니다. 페르시아 왕의 지원과 유대 지도자들의 협력 속에 성전의 기초가 놓이자 제사장과 성가대, 백성 모두가 함께 기뻐하며 찬양합니다. 그러나 기쁨의 소리와 함께 옛 솔로몬 성전을 기억하며 통곡하는 소리도 들립니다(7-13절)

Who is God?

Vv. 10-11 God shows mercy to his people forever. The destruction of the temple and their exile occurred because they broke the covenant and rejected the word of God. Nonetheless, the Lord gave them another chance and allowed them to rebuild the temple. Even now, God's mercy continues to flow in our daily lives in the same way.

백성에게 영원히 인자를 베푸십니다. 성전 파괴와 포로 생활은 백성이 언약을 어기고 말씀을 거부한 결과였지만, 하나님은 그들에게 다시 기회를 주시고 성전 재건을 허락하셨습니다. 지금도 하나님의 자비는 우리 일상 속에 흐르고 있습니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 1-6 The first thing the exiles did was to restore worship. Worship was essential for restoring their relationship with God, so it took priority over the rebuilding of the temple. What about my life? Is my life centred on worshipping God, communing with him, and meditating on his Word?

귀환한 백성이 가장 먼저 한 일은 예배의 회복이었습니다. 예배는 하나님과의 관계 회복이며, 그것이 성전 건축보다 우선되었습니다. 나는 말씀과 예배를 삶의 중심에 두고 하나님과 교제하고 있습니까?

Dear God, help me to encounter you through true worship as you purify me to become a temple where your Spirit dwells.
